Mitch Marner is a good hockey player. People can argue what they want but he is good. He is also very polarizing and I don’t think I’ve ever seen a player in leafs history like him. There are a lot of things that has happened that doesn’t help him. Some his fault others not.

1) contract demands after ELC
2) marners apology to fans
3) playoff struggles
4) how he’s answered question with the media
5) rocket security he hired defending him on social media
6) Paul Marner
7) the way the team never holds him accountable. Remember a few years ago when Keefe criticized him and then apologized next day.

I’m sure there is more but all this stuff adds up to everyone’s frustration with Marner. Leaf fans are passionate and want to win. They are a big market team and this is not just a leafs thing every big market is like this.

Brought it up in another thread but better suited here, how do we see Cooper deploying Marner at the 4 Nations? Will he be leaned on as much as he is here?

I think he will play with Bennett and Cirelli as the shutdown line of sort. He just matches their style more and as he is going to be the primary puck holder. Just can’t see MM on a line with McD and Mack as both of them tend to carry the puck on the ice.

Can see him play with Sid and Marchand too but do think Point and Konecny fit the Bergy role better.

Going to be interesting to see who will be the last guy on the PP1 beside Mack, McD, Sid and Makar.

A lot of good points and I’d tend to agree with them. I think a big shooter is needed with those others on PP1 which obviously Marner isn’t.

I wonder if they spotlight him as an offensive leader or put him in an overqualified defensive role.

Mitch thought they played well against the Canucks who have sucked in the new year.

That’s why I was thinking they may prefer him on the PK instead of PP.
Too much talent for them to rely on him in all situations like the Leafs do.
I think Cooper will run four lines and stack the lines if he needs a boast or a goal.
No point running top 6 bottom 6, as there are just so much talents on Team Canada.

Masterful performance yet again, notching 2 assists on two amazing plays. Should’ve been man of the match, and have some more assists
Habs pulled the goalie with 3+ minutes to go. He could easily have had a goal or another apple which would have made his night even more amazing.

Watching him and Domi, I am wondering which one will be next to score against a goalie.

Marner and Domi give me flashbacks to Kaberle... SHOOOOOOT!!!
Maybe Domi because hes usually close to the net. Marner, is so far from the net and hes just firing muffins into legs. On the PP... im like "dont shoot!"because almost always it results in a ruined posession and a faceoff. He also has a super slow release, so the entire world knows hes shooting.
