Why is MM’s choice the Leafs? What if another team(better than the Leafs) offer a similar contract?
I agree that when MM hits UFA, regardless of what happens in this playoffs, most if not all teams will want to sign him? And I really don’t think MM will not be open to signing with another team.
Both Stars and Avs have the cap space to offer MM 12-13mil deal. Would MM still signs with Leafs if the offers are similar, I really don’t know.

Was that the year with Leetch on D?
Nobody can see the future, so i just put myself in his skates. I’ve made about 70 million already I probably am sure I can make another 90 over the next 8 years. Would I move away from home for a 10 percent raise? No. Would you move away from friends and family for 10% more in another city, maybe another country?

While some folks and fans definitely go over the top with criticism, I don't have much sympathy for the 'poor Marner ' stuff

In his own words he's described his time in Toronto as being treated "like a God". He won't get that level anywhere else.

The Leafs contract offer, regardless of what it is will make him one of the highest paid wingers in NHL history.

The entire core has been given everything they've asked from the team and fanbase, and more.
Absolutely. It's not just for Marner, getting drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs if you're a superstar caliber player is the single best scenario for your bank account, really no debate. Dealing with the crazy media is hardly any price to pay for the immense luxuries in other aspects.

LOL, this team needs more goal scorers because they are not built to win games 6-5, especially in the playoffs and in game #7s in particular. In games where they have allowed 3 or more goals, they are 6-8-2 if my math is correct. Reminder we are 1-8 in the playoffs with the best passer in the history of the game and our PP has not intimidated anyone.

Loses - 4-1, 4-3, 5-1, 3-1, 4-2, 5-2, 6-3, 3-0
Wins - 6-4, 4-3 (OT), 4-3 (OT), 5-3, 5-3, 5-3, 6-3, 6-4

Only in Toronto do some fans prefer a soft, scared, whiny passer who has led them to no playoff success in 8 years, held out for every last cent as an RFA and threatened with two offer sheets, and now wants $13+m over a guy who has a SC, a 55 goal season and multiple 100+ point seasons. You cannot make this stuff up.

Lol

Matthews can’t create plays and can’t pass 1/5 as well as MacKinnon.
Rantenen will not produce as many goals and will struggle to produce points like Huberdeau

Yes.

Stars and Avs are closer to the Cup than the Leafs. On top of that, going to the Avs is like Eichel going to Vegas, MM will just be a supporting player to Mack and Makar. To be fair, all our core 5 are all Betas playing in Alpha roles.

Now if you are getting paid similar amount and without the responsibilities of being a leader and just can play the game you love and enjoy while having a better chance in winning the Cup. Would you switch team?

No, I’d hang in and play for my fav team at home. As I said nobody can see the future so moving to a team you think has a better shot is not worth the gamble.

Do you think Zach Hyman is missing Toronto much? No. these players get over it quickly especially if the situation is good.

That’s your opinion.
I think when given a choice, esp a team like the Avs, the core will choose the Avs.

Hyman had made 10 million when he left to cash in on a 38 million contract. I don’t know what the Leafs offered but he was only making 2.5 so yeah for a 100 percent raise I would move.
But Leafs didn’t offer the same 2.5mil contract to him.

So it could very well be 5mil*8yrs, which is 500k less

Marner was playing at a high level when Matthews was injured. His game has definitely dipped ever since Matthews returned. Why are these two always attached by the hip? Split them up!

6 points in 14 games 5v5 is not a high level.

All his points were on the PP and 4v4 and empty net.

The powerplay was more effective .Maybe try Matthew's on PP 2 with Domi for a bit?

I'm happy with anything different personally.

It wasn’t all about points, his overall play defensively, controlling the play offensively, elevating his line mates, etc was very good when Matthews was out. That’s all dropped ever since.

He looked amazing tonight. This playmaking savant had a great assist on the lone goal. That shot wouldn’t go in without an outstanding play from Mitchy Mitch
