He's a great puck distributor.

I think he could score more than he does, but that's just opinion, so I have no evidence of that.
He is however he can be more of a dual threat like Kane and kucherov that’s Mitch reaching his potential everyone knows he’s gonna pass and he still makes it credit to him but a more aggressive approach would make him one of the best in the league

Questions for Leafs fans:
1. What are the chances Marner resigns in Toronto?
2. If he signs elsewhere, do you see his production dropping, especially if he goes to a less high scoring team than Toronto?

  1. It's a virtual lock he re-signs with the Leafs
  2. If he went somewhere else, his production shouldn't drop because he's been able to produce with everyone he plays with, and he would sign with a contender that already has good offensive players.

He has the potential to be a great fit on a contending team that already has top end talent. However, there’s no way they’re going to trade him and even if they did it would be at the TDL which rarely works in the first year.

12.5mx8=100m. Nobody is giving Marner $14mx7 IMO. Tre should dig in at 12.5m but not poop his pants worrying Marner will walk. Let him FFS.
28 goals for $12.5M is a lot of money. It seems like something he would take seriously. Can Tre dig in tho and will he have to?
Are we possibly overestimating Marner's greed? He signed after a 26g-94pt season as a 21 year old. That looked like a springboard year to some huge seasons based on his age but he has been 30-100 per 82 games since then so he kind of has a level and while his overall game is more rounded, nobody is predicting a bunch more growth in point production.

Exactly he is in the ballpark of all he can be, he won’t be better 3 plus years from now. Extend at 11. Don’t swallow this % of the cap crap.

If you are talking about scoring more goals, then we do have evidence

He’s been a 30+ goal scorer for 4 years now,and this year the pace is down to 23. This is mostly impacted by a current 8 game goalless drought

He’s been good, but I would like to see some more goal scoring after the break.

He's scored 30+ twice and his goals have declined every year since his peak of 35.

Meh I’m willing to say he’d score 4 goals in 13 games last year. And whilst the total wasn’t there in the shortened season, he scored as often as a 30 goal scorer wouldve that season, and even score more than nylander.

Bottom line is his goal totals this year are not enough, 23 is not going to cut it, and he needs to be at 27-32 like he usually paces for.

Yep. Marner-Keefe hockey was kind of hockey’s answer to Pep Guardiola possession soccer. It wasn’t rush hockey at all but hold the puck Russian Five inspired hockey that often meant circling the zone looking off an average scoring chance for more puck possession time, regrouping and retreating the puck backwards to hold onto the puck for a better look as opposed to moving it quickly, temporarily losing possession and having to initiate a fresh puck battle. Basically avoid one on one challenges to loss of puck.
Well, I guess Dubas and Keefe never got the statistic showing 80% of the game is played 3ft from the boards in the playoffs. It would have helped to know that and the system they were trying to use doesn't fit with that stat.

Yeah I think we are not on a Rantanen preferred destination. I wouldn’t spend that much on another winger anyway, I’d put the cash toward a couple of dmen and a second line winger

More dmen? What are we gonna do with the 5 we’re already committed to with NMC/NTC’s? Any existing money should be thrown at forwards preferably another tier 2 center.

3 nmc , the rest are movable, 2 have modified so tradeable for upgrades, plus 2 more spots available.

I’m sorry but that would be a horrible / major waste of cap dollars. We don’t need any more defenseman. We need centers and a scoring winger. defense isn’t even strong in this UFA. We’ll had to repeat the same process you’re suggesting a year later.

Whoever signs Ekblad will regret the contract about 30 seconds after it is signed.
\depends how much Mitch gets. Some say 14… so 14 plus we drop a min wage guy and add his pay which brings us to 15 replacing 2 players. Pretty close to the same pay.

Easy pass on both. Ekblad is going to cost 8 million plus. No idea how you think we could afford both.

Ekblad has not played a full 82 season since the 2018-19 season and he’s only 28. His body is not going to hold up for the duration of that contract. Are you willing to pay 8 million plus for a guy who’s gonna give you 50-65 games and less than 40 points on the back end? Seems like a terrible idea
Absolutely give Ekblad 8 plus after all we gave Rielly 7 plus a few years ago and considered it a deal. In the last 7 years, using your 2018/19 start date Marner has played in 49 more games. Well injuries do happen, doesn’t mean that trend will continue. But it’s fine to have a different opinion
