I’m not subscribing to the BS that Marner is getting $14 million. So I don’t really see it that way. The leafs have established their internal cap. Marner will not be a leaf making more than Matthews and that’s just a fact. I think he gets more than Nylander, less than Matthews and if the rumors of him wanting to be here are true, he’ll sign for that number in between because he doesn’t want to leave. I think that’s exactly what will happen.
If the ask is $14 million... then there is a middle ground somewhere, no one comes in with their best and final on day 1 of negotiation.
I think he will come in around $12.5 - 13, which is the market rate as much as people don't want to hear it.
