It stands to reason Matthews and Nylander will be the only comparables since his agent said Matthews and Tavares were the only comparables used in 2019.

Apologies if I come across as a dick here. But that’s still speculative no? That would just be us assuming that. We don’t have definitive proof those are the comparables he will elect to use. We are just guessing based off what happened last time. So my statement would be true, everything mess said was speculative. We don’t actually know what Marner’s asking price is.

I heard a very possible105m by 25/26

if true and we'll use 96m which with another jump of 10% would put the cap at 105.6m

Elliot said on 32 thoughts it could be as high as 110m in 2 seasons at the start of the new CBA.

You were here about 8 years when the prediction was $100mm by now.

The pandemic killed that, but there is something else on the way.

Tighten the belts ...

Yeah Covid decimated those projections. The Roger’s rights deal was supposed to have the cap at $100m. Hence part of the reason Toronto has some of the contracts it does now. But seems like players and league will go to 50/50 split of revenue in the next CBA and the cap is going to go up. Looking forward to it. I think player movement is good for the game. I would like to see teams not give out as many NMC’s if they are going to pay more for players.

Speculation, sure, but at least it's based on something. As for mess.....I better not go there.

A better bonus structure would make a tonne of sense.

Not straight forward when it comes to % of HRR, but perhaps part of the calculation could be contributions to HRR per team. If Team A is contributing $$$$ and Team B is contributing -$$$, some fairness to the fans paying the freight might be fair.

And it's not even what happened last time. The agent never said what the poster claimed. Nobody knows the details of last time or this time, and people should probably just wait for the contract that we will hopefully sign. Then people can spend years being angry at the contract they refuse to understand.

Kyper keeps suggesting they give Marner a shot at C. Domi clearly is better winger than a C but with Matty out, they play him at C and not Marner or Nylander.
The last couple of games they have been playing Nylander at C instead of Domi.

Yep. Marner Fans jumping up and down about his points but fail to give Tavares and Mcmann cresit for their incredible play on the 5v5 goal.

Tavares was amazing, watch how quickly he gets up off the ice and powers to the net to create the goal, with his great hand in tight.

Meanwhile Kelly Hrudey highlighted Marner lazy effort in the Boston series - how Marner took a light slash and fell to the ice and took forever to get up lol. That was playoff Marner, this is season Tavares!
can only speak for myself but I absolutely refuse to give McMann any credit for the first goal on saturday night

TSN reported that Marner's agent said what the poster claimed, so the poster will go with TSN over an anonymous poster
TSN did not report that Marner's agent said that. TSN reported that Marner's agent said something entirely different. TSN also reported direct quotes from the agent contradicting that claim. Anonymous posters like to listen to what TSN and agents actually say, instead of letting bias jump them to the assumptions they want.

Kyper shilling for Marner. Says Marner should be looking at Draisaitl $$$ and could get it if elsewhere if Leafs pass. Bourne responded about Marner not producing 5 on 5. Sammy also disagreed with Kyper.

Anybody paying Marner, Draisaitl money will never win a cup. Leafs can't because they already have two players making almost $25m. A desperate team that can probably does not have the stars Mitch needs to succeed.

From TSN
Marner, who led the Maple Leafs in points for a second straight season last year, will carry an average annual cap hit of $10.893 million on his new contract, the third-highest cap hit on the team. Ferris told First Up that Marner looked to Maple Leafs centres Auston Matthews and John Tavares as comparable contracts while he negotiated, rather than comparing himself to players around the league
..."I'm sure when you go to work and you do the same amount of work as someone else does in your company you feel you should be compensated as fairly as them.

In what world is Marner worth the same amount as Draisaitl? Drai is the better regular season performer AND BY FAR the better playoff performer. Kyper is a moron.

If Leafs win a Cup and he wins the Conn Smythe, he can fill in the blank cheque himself.

Otherwise...

Anyone in sports media who believes Leafs should keep the same gang together for 9 years of futility with the same Cap Structure, isn't a serious or objective observer of this team. It's win or break it up.

They already should have made substantial moves and the franchise takes a beating because they haven't even been to a Finals in almost 60 years. So why not continue to convey to the world that the team is about safe, easy nickels rather than making the difficult decisions necessary to win it all.

An extension is likely going to be sooner than later. It will probably be higher than most anticipate though, I'm expecting 12.25-13.25ish over 8 years of term.

I hope they do it soon before more cap increase info comes out. I sure hope it's not in the 12's but we'll see, I don't love Tre's history on re-signing players.
