wut  Meanwhile, on Planet Earth...

He's going to walk into negotiations asking for 13M a year because the team's supposed leader asks for top dollar in the world without committing any term.

w/o Matthews: 61 games, 80 points out of a possible 122 (65.6%)
w/o Marner: 42 games, 45 points out of a possible 84 (53.5%)

I mean... the stats show that it's true. Your thoughts on Matthews 5v5 points with and without Marner? If Marner is so good, why is Matthews significantly more productive without him?

I don’t know why, but at the end of the day if anybody looks at personal stats and a player wins an Art Ross the system below is the only one that matters. So it is good enough for me.

Don't lost your time with him

Marner is a top 5 in the entire NHL at 5v5 player since 2019 ( the years he signed his actual contract) and he try to dismiss his 5v5 game and giving all credit to a player who's actually had only 5 pts in 13 game at 5v5...

If he would produce at 5v5 and not on pp, it would be Marner fault Pp struggling. For this guy, everything is marner fault even when the team winning with Marner in the driving seat.

He would win an art ross or hart trophy or conne smythe and im pretty sure he would find something to complain about him.

If Marner and Nylander track like this together. Nylander with more goals and Marner with an edge in points, the max ask from Marners camp should be a matching contract.

That isn't to say I think it's the best formula for winning a cup or that he is the right player for us, but if we are using internal comparables I think it tracks.

If Marner were to get more than Nylander amd I were Nylander, I would feel under appreciated and that's weird to say considering they are all overpaid now as is.

Yup, it wasn’t to long ago at the start of the year, Antroprovsky claimed that it was Marner’s fault that the PP has struggled. That he doesn’t score enough PP goals. Now Marner won’t stop scoring on the PP.

Then it was Marner doesn’t score enough goals from in right, now Marner has scored a couple right in front of the net.

Now it’s he doesn’t score 5 v 5. Look no one is saying Marner is the perfect player but he’s been damn good and we should celebrate when a Leaf is playing good. Antrorprovsky will find a reason no matter what after every game to try and diminish Marner’s contributions. I don’t know if he’s trolling, or if Marner while in London bullied the guy or dumped his sister. But is just insane the mental gymnastics he’ll do nightly to try and get people to join his anti Marner cult.

I don’t defend Marner because I’m just a Marner fan and not a leafs fan. I defend Marner because I do think he is unfairly blamed for the teams lack of success. He’s a f***ing leaf and I want the leafs to be a good team. He ain’t going anywhere so i want him to be good now and in the playoffs so we can witness success. Same goes for all the other leafs.

Nice goal last night, would have been nice if he showed up for the previous 59 minutes.
He was excellent in the third. And I said he was bad in the second in the game thread.

On a wider point, I love how a guy who carried the team the last couple weeks isn’t allowed an off game. I mean people sluff off his good runs and jump the moment he falters, like every other star in the league. And then don’t realize they blow their “credibility”, but somehow are comforted because twelve more bottom feeders on social media agree. What a world.

Not sure if people just froth and don't watch or they watch and don't understand what they see. Comical, none the less.

Caps fans must be pissed at their goalie letting in that muffin shot for the tying goal.

Imagine hating on the player who leads the team in points. The same player who leads the team in playoff points since he came into the league. The same player who has been trusted time and time again by multiple NHL coaches to play on the PK. The same player who gained Selke nominations as a winger. The same player who has the most impact on the team when he's not playing (Leafs lose more when he's not playing compared to the other core players). No wonder other fan bases call Leaf fans delusional. Before the haters respond.. the above FACTS are not up for debate for they are indeed FACTS.

Marner has been the best player in this 4/5 game stretch without Matthews. I don’t think that’s a far fetched statement. You could also make a very strong case for Tavares. I’d say one of the two.
He's played great but not alone, others have stepped up as you mentioned.
Similarly, it's not all his fault as some believe when the team falters.

Understanding Team Sports isn't for every one.

Marner has played well, but he has not carried the team, no one player carries a team.

There is basically no 5v5 offence provided during Matthews absence, against some pretty weak teams. That’s on the big ticket guys, not Kampf and Holmberg.

If Marner scored the GWG in Stanley cup finals game 7 @antroprovsky would call it a muffin

He was the best player during his latest run, yes. It's okay. And I'd add every show on air agreed, whether you and the other butt hurt fans agree, it doesn't distract or actually matter. I'd rather be a "fan boy" of a guy who will have his number retired than be a toxic fan who can't enjoy his team. Now say playoffs, I've said the same thing repeatedly myself...

Blame Dubas for bad RA contracts, he's at fault, not agents who want to maximize the return for their client.

It's just mob mentality at this point, Marner is where their anger always goes. I'm just enjoying his play this season, he's a treat to watch. Ditto Nylander. Ditto Stolarz, Tanev, JT....

More a handful than a mob. He's still one of the most popular players in the building on game nights.
I'm with you, loving the play of many this year and I credit Berube for that.

Wonder what ever happened to that guy who promised he'd be boo'd by fans whenever he touched the puck, receive the Larry Murphy treatment?

You do know that since Matthews has been out Nylander also has zero 5 v 5 points as well. It was just intentionally left out by antroprovsky: this team sucks 5 on 5. They sucked 5 on 5 with Matthews too.

3 players had one 5 v 5 point. Now 6 do after tonight’s goal. One 5 v 5 point from Tavares, Marner, Nylander and Rielly combined. It’s not all on Marner.
Who has the 5 on 5 point ?
