Simple. Matthews and Nylander haven’t shown they are winners. Nor have they shown that winning is their top priority.
Well that’s not really true, Mathews won 2 golds at the world hrs one was under 18 I believe he was also an mvp in one of those. William also won a gold medal at the world hrs and was also the MV P. Although yep you are correct they haven’t won here.

Who cares about tournaments. Did Matthews even medal at the WJHC?

Matthews helped lead the United States men's national under-18 ice hockey team to gold at the 2014 IIHF World U18 Championship. He did so again in the 2015 Championship, leading the tournament in scoring and being named the Most Valuable Player (MVP), as well as earning the top forward slot on the Media All-Star Team.

Tournament no different than playoffs. They’ve succeeded in playing under the most pressure possible given their age and situation. Except here but who knows if they played for another nhl team they certainly had a chance of being on a Cup winner.

If we eliminate boys hockey and just discuss men's hockey, Matthews won NHL League MVP, Nylander won World Championship MVP.

Anyway, this is Red Herring.

Right, I can’t remember if he medalled at the WJHC either.

Tournaments are two weeks or 1 nhl playoff round. Really no difference.

I do. I observed his play.

Maybe he doesn’t, but Marner won a Mem Cup and I’m thinking on a good team with good players he might do better.

Maybe the other two would do more playing with better players but I don’t think that’s a priority.
That’s your opinion we have people of the opinion that we can’t win with Marner and he literally quit on us last playoffs not sure I agree with them but I know I don’t agree with you

They won 2015 of course they medaled

While you would like to believe that, I don't think that is 100%.

As UFA they can go anywhere, so other than 8th. year team doesn't have much leverage.

If they feel they've been short-changed (NHL reality), they could take a hard line knowing they can cash in as a free agent everywhere else in the NHL.

Probably doesn't hurt if the GM has been previously burnt by a walkaway UFA (RIP).
This leverage applies to both players. If they don’t think they are being offered what they believe is fair, they can go to the next bidder. I just don’t think the prior Nylander ‘deal’ signed many years ago matters much to the Marner camp. If he agrees to a cheaper deals it’s simply because he want to be here, not because he thought he didn’t provide enough value on the last one.

I’m talking Matthews. He plays for the USA.

Anteopvskys over the top online schtick hate boner for Marner makes me like him more and more after every post of his I see. Go Marner go. Just do well this playoffs plz and thank you!

The NMCs are team crippling. We have proven we can make the playoffs. We have also proven we can not succeed at the playoffs with this core. To double down on bad contracts and lack the money for depth and Tending and D going forward is nothing short of foolishly or greed. Greed in that they are popular sports figures that make money for the organization.

Smart people understand profits over product. Profits over success. Profits over all.

Vs.

Win at all costs.

Domi is better?
Doesn't have the talent of Kampf?
At what point of an emergency would they try it?
Fear?
He’s always played with Matthews or Tavares, which one of them moves to the wing so he can go to the middle?

My feeling when you are involved in a world championship at any level and come out with a championship as well as mvp you have what it takes. You can handle the pressure.

Did you miss this part?

Right now they have 1 top 2 center.
Domi isn't a top center, and apparently isn't even 100%, but is playing anyway.

Just seems weird that someone they could play in all situations including penalty killing, someone touted to be 2nd. best forward on the team would refuse to give it a go?

Nylander isn’t really a centre either.

I mean we could have the next Patrice Bergeron under our noses and not even know it.

I would like to see them try it
Nylander was a center through his time in the AHL if I recall, and we moved him to wing when we drafted Matthews. He typically plays center internationally for Sweden. Very different from a guy who hasn’t played in the middle for over 10 years. I do agree we need options here, as Domi isn’t it.

Nylander has more athletic attributes the team sometimes wants to try out at center such as his skating, puckhandling and shooting, but Marner is behaviorally more of a center of the two. I'd actually try them together.
