Marner has taken too much heat on this board. ./EOT

It was actually refreshing for Mitch Marner to comment about how expectations/criticism works in this Toronto market.

Not sure who concocted that meme but it's pretty terrible. For one thing, Grasshopper was Caine from Kung Fu so it doesn't even make sense. Second, if memory serves, that's a clip from Karate Kid 2 at the beginning where he humiliates the Cobra Kai sensei so Miagi wouldn't be calling him any sort of student name. Finally, WTF does money have to with the Karate Kid franchise? I hope it wasn't you that crafted this; it's pretty damned bad.

I think if we're using memes to explain the situation this would make the most sense:

How much more would producing in the playoffs cost

double the amount... about 11 million more for a total of 22 million per season... I mean.... that 11 million is only for regular season; if the you want him to work more you gotta pay for overtime...

Ferris and Paul had that in the fine print that Dubas' big ass spectacles couldn't see apparently

P.S. can someone pager this link to Dubas? :biglaugh:
Spectacles, said to ward off evil, are expected to be sold for £3.5 million

Let me guess, you show up to work at 9:05am and leave at 4:59pm sharp.

Terry Koshan of the Sun reported what Spezza's thoughts were on last season:

"I don't want to forget any of it. I want to learn from all of it". What a gem.

Contrast that with what Marner said during yesterday's presser. He wanted to forget it all, put it behind him, and move on. Says a lot about the difference in maturity between the two. I hope Marner matures at some point so that we don't witness his piss-poor efforts like in the last 3 playoff games. He came across as a petulent entitled child. He earned too much money too fast without having earned it.

His season will begin in game 1 of the playoffs

Marner will either silence his doubters or prove the claims true

He'll put 90-100 points this year if healthy and be a top 5ish winger. However his legacy as a leaf will most likely be determined by his play in round 1.

He's got to dominate there and be our best or 2nd best player and get the job done winning 4 of the 7 games.

He does that and he'll be loved and treated like the golden boy again. If not and another 1st round exit, the team is blown up with him being the prime guy shipped out

He did not say he wanted to forget it all. No need to put words in his mouth.

He certainly didn’t say he wanted to learn from it. If you recall from the end of season presser he petulantly said he wouldn’t change a thing. Then we find out he’s been working on his shot. Because of his immaturity and sense of entitlement, he doesn’t come across sincerely when he speaks to the media. He’s guarded. But when you ask for the moon for your salary and get it, you better be forthright.

You’re reading into a couple of press conferences way too much and grasping at straws to get your shot in at Marner.
