If he gets 14 x 8 from Toronto, he’ll end up getting Larry Murphy’d out of Toronto before the deal is half done. Maybe it’s just me but his breakaway speed looks worse this year, I don’t see his gaming aging well over the course of an 8 year deal, hopefully he wants a short term deal like Matthews.
the fans who booed Larry Murphy out of Toronto were dumb and wrong

Which elite goal score was he playing with when Matthews was injured for half of the season and is that elite scorer going to be on the team next year? Is Matthews going somewhere? Is Nylander going to be on the team next year? Are you implying the Leafs are not going to try and improve their top 6 next year? If Nylander, Knies, Matthews, McMann are going to be on the team next year the bolded part is a moot point no?
John Tavares our best C with 34 out. He actually scored half his goals thar month.

Why should he? So he can make a few people who he’ll never meet happy or hate him less lol? Everyone’s different, maybe he didn’t feel that was worth sacrificing 5-6 million dollars over. And quite frankly I don’t blame him. Fans will turn on you at any point, whether he was making 9.5 or 10.9. If his production remained the same, people would be upset. So get your bread.
Reasons pretty simple: pressure. The more you make, the more there is. He hasn't really responded well to pressure here. The playoff numbers declining as series go on, the tears in the box, the awkward social media post after the contract.

Prediction: he will likely extend during the first week of July, 13.6-13.9 mil aav over max term. Team will champion that they kept it under 14.

If they were going to compromise on aav the deal would have been announced by now.
That will go over well. Max term is 7 years if it goes into July.

You think it's only a few people. Ok.

Honestly, it's only a bunch of 40, 50, 60 year olds that hate him. Every kid absolutely thinks the world of Marner. You really shouldn't take the opinions of this site as the majority. Not even close.

Might be the reason they are willing to pay him. Winning the cup is secondary. It is why I laugh at a clown like pelley who says they are not here to sell jerseys.

Marner love is probably 70/30 lead by the 5-40 crowd

Honestly, as I mentioned before, I don’t blame the players for getting the max but blame the MGT on giving those contracts.

The thing with MM is that when he signed his last contract, he was the highest among Aho, Rantanen, Tkachuk and Point in the same off season. Three of those four won Cups and the one didn’t was signed for 2.2mil less.
If you want to talk about regular season, all four scored more goals and had similar or better points productions.

Personally, if I am MM, I would sign after Rantanen signs his deal. Bc if Rantanen signs for 12mil(unless his Canes production continues), there is no way MM should be paid more than him unless MM completely dominates the playoffs. And I am not talking about the Leafs, I am talking about MM signing with any teams.

Liking MM and wanting Leafs to resign him are two separate issues though.

You can love MM but think it is not the right fit with the current Leafs.

Pretty much, I like Mitch I very rarely criticize his play, I always wanted to extend him but if he gets paid more than he is worth, I won’t be a fan of the decision.

You really shouldn't be laughing at Pelley when you just asked what the difference is between $1M and 1%.

With the cap going up Marner is getting 12-13 million per year if not more. I don’t like it but someone is giving him that.
It is not how much MM is getting but rather if Leafs crashes out in the first round again. Is it time to break them up or let’s bet on them again and hope they can do it.

You think it's only a few people. Ok.

What I’m saying is I’m not giving up 5-7 million dollars to appease strangers who won’t give a shit about me once I’m not a leaf and providing them entertainment.

How about doing it for the team?

Nope, same with the team. They will screw you over. I know I seem pretty direct, but if you ever played a sport at even the collegiate level you will understand that these organizations, use you and spit you out once they are done with you. I have no issues with Marner or any other player maximizing their earnings. You get one life. You, the athlete are putting your body, health on the line. Anything can happen at any point. So nah, I’m not taking less just because.

I blame the team 100% for it. You had leverage. Let him go and sign the offer sheets. You did not have to give him 10.9. Marner took what was available for him to take and I don’t blame him at all for that.

This is a player that typically would take summers off. Management had to sit him down rhis past year and direct him to put in the work this offseason. That became the thing management and teammates kept repeating, that Marner had actually put in the work this offseason. Because it was such a significant story for them.

Winning isn't this guy's priority. He just wants to live the good life. How much would 15lbs of muscle help him? He can't do anything out there because he's so easily knocked off the puck or just plain afraid of being hit.

Meanwhile guys likes Crosby and Kucherov are praised for how hard they work in the offseason. Matthews and Mcdavid train together. Crosby, Marchand and Mackinnon have been training for years together in the offseason.

Kucherov started training just a week after elimination from the playoffs.

Pursuit of perfection drives Kucherov's intense summer training
