Post-Game Talk: Miserable Matinee

So this is what a Flames fan gets to watch every game: decent goaltending with no offense.

Be glad we’re not them.
lol, if Skinner played you’d be complaining that he had poor rebound control and got beat clean. And that if only he had a shutout the oilers would have won the cup. Your PGTs after a loss are night and day difference based on who starts

The Back-Up Plan.
Oil got good goaltending again which is the big takeaway. But little else with the power outage of their play drivers out of the lineup. Very underwhelming games from Hyman and Nugent Hopkins. J. Skinner in audition time also was way too quiet along with quick twitch Kapanen who shows speed & some puck skill but too often zeroes right across his stat line. Frederic looks like a missing ingredient with physical, hard ice play and some innate nasty.

Get this team healthy including another apex predator Kane and we'll see what they've got this season.

Pickard is actually likable. Not like Skinner who thinks he's a vezina finalist after 1 .900 game.

Pretty limited offence without McDrai. Looks like Nuge is on another of his 15 game do nothing heaters. Kulak looks like he's fallen off a cliff the last couple months. And please get Polkozin off any top 6 line. He shouldn't be allowed to handle the puck after beating it square again. Let him grind and pound somewhere down the bottom. Hyman looks lost.

Pickard with another solid game. .929 save % , and against another quality opponent.

Arvy with a solid workmanlike performance.

Frederic looked like he tweaked something on the first shift. I hope they didn't bring him back before he's 100 %. If so, shame on them.

Games like this expose just how much hyman and nuge leetch points off mcdrai. Both contracts looked like steals two years ago and now they look like they don't deserve the 5 million a year they get. We're so quick to write off Kane after last season but at least he provides physical and pest play when he isn't scoring.
What a joke.

Two years ago? Hyman had 16 goals in the playoffs LAST year. WE as a team have gone over this over and over. Not everyone can produce with superstars, simple as that.

The Kings barely beat a team that's missing McDavid, Draisaitl, Ekholm and Kane and a player that JUST came back from being injured and most likely wasn't 100%. If the Oilers are at full strength come game 1 (and we play the Kings again) I think it's gonna be a massacre

I doubt it would be a massacre if we faced LA in round 1. We can barely beat teams in regulation and when we do win it is by 1 goal

Yeah it's almost as if playing with mcdavid when he popped off 150 and 130 pt seasons fueled that hense my original comment. Not surprised that you missed that little bit of the post. As soon as mcdavid puts up a down season for him hyman has turned back into a hat he was in Toronto and rnh turned back into what he was pre 100 pt season.

Pickard also had a 0.75 GSAx. And it’s his fourth straight start and game over .900. So that’s a silver lining.

But Kuemper had 2.5 GSAx, so…if these numbers are to be trusted, he kind of stole this one.

Devils advocate, did we expect different? The Kings are disciplined and they play their systems. Even with McDavid and Draisaitl we play far too passive, easy and loose. It’s going to take a different approach to beat these guys in the postseason, one that we have no idea if this group can buckle down and actually get done.

Really hope we haven't seen Hyman and RNH go over the hill offensively. Was thinking the absence of McDrai could snap them back into it via taking lead roles. Also, Jack's suite made me want to buy an overpriced used car.

Did he? I can scarcely remember that many big saves by DK. These numbers don’t anyways reflect pucks that actually reach the goalie. I saw a lot of long ranged shots from the blue line that wouldn’t beat any goalie.

May have been the most limp dick offensive game I've ever seen from a forward group....but other than that not too bad.

You mean players produce more when paired with McDrai.

You brainstorm that yourself?

Related to Crott?

One topic posting again verified. There was nothing at all wrong with the OP.

So anyway. I watched the game in 50mins lol after enjoying a remarkable day outside.

I think you'd need binoculars to spot a lot of our forwards doing anything today. Looking specifically at the guys expected to still be able to produce a drop. of these Hyman had some tries, even Arvid for what they were had a few looks.

Nuge, Skinner, several others could've been charged admission for this game.

Say what one will this game was essentially for 2nd place in division and home ice in first round. Whether I think that means much is irrelevant. It should mean something to the players.

Heres something. Pickard has only 9 losses all season and was very good in this game, again. For the 3rd time in his losses the team in front of him failed to score a single goal.

This team has a pathetic cast of goal scorers after McDavid and Draisatl. I wasn’t expecting a win here but they didn’t even make their goalie earn his shutout.
