How does this work exactly? I thought you could only bury something like a million AAV in the minors. So is this a setup for an eventual buy-out in the offseason?

Not as fast as he used to be, not as strong on the puck as he used to be.

To his defense he also has been playing BS bottom 6 minutes.

Called this ish a long long long time ago.

Credit where credit is due. :handclap:

When the trades happened I was happy about losing Carter and sad about losing Richards. But for a smaller guy like him who played such a physical game falling off a cliff around 30 years old was always on the cards.

Don't understand why he fought being bought out. Now he gets to wallow in the AHL hoping any team will take his contract rather then getting paid for his contract and being able to pick where he gets to play next. He could be a #1 C on quite a few teams in the league or a #2 on an even larger #. The only drawback is his huge ass contract.

had he been bought out he would have lost significant money. So yeah makes sense to fight being bought out.

Lombardi really blew it. That extra cap space would be so nice right now for LA.

Richards wouldn't even be a top six center on 9 out of 10 teams in this league. He still should have accepted the CBO last year though. It would have made more sense for him financially and in terms of his ability to stay in the NHL. No one is claiming him at that hit/term.

Richards is not a #1 center on any team. Even a #2 is pushing it

We covered this already, he wouldn't have lost significant money especially because he would've been signed immediately to another contract.

RIP capgeek, but IIRC if another team had signed to him a 4 year deal at $4m he would have been even or slightly ahead when combined with the buyout money.

They might think someone will claim him. Maybe the Oilers.

Idk that he would have lost a significant amount of money. Yea he loses a 1/3 of the remaining salary on the contract but he also gets to start fresh in a UFA market. Richards strikes me as a person that cares more about his pride as a player then the $ hes making anyway

What? He would have gotten 2/3rds of his contract from LA and another from whatever team signed him. It may have even offered him the opportunity to make more money. He fought it because he's a proud dude that was playing on a team that offered him as good a chance as any to win more cups.

Until they add McDavid or Eichel in the draft. Then he'd be behind one of them and Girgensons.

Ottawa is probably content to just use Turris and Zibanejad.

Calagary has Monahan and Bennett.
