This photo is pretty spectacular if for nothing else the dramatic colors utilized in the 70s. And the two remarkable athletes. The Flyers' site has a slew of All-Star Game photos from over the years.

I guess Crosby doesn't want to play in the ASG. LBI, apparently, and he's out about a week.
So he's almost 10 years in the league now and is supposed to be the face of the NHL and his last and only All Star Game appearance was in 2007...

The outdoor games have ran their course in my opinion. It was a cool idea at first but now it just doesn't do anything for me anymore. The addition of all these games now just killed the whole thing in my opinion.

I agree. It's nothing special anymore. They killed it with the Stadium Series.

They're running out of intriguing matchups & venues since they use the same teams all the time. I understand why they do that & don't fault them for trying to get the most money possible out of it but at the same you run the risk of it getting stale eventually & that's what's happening now in my opinion. The addition of the stadium series games just sped up the process.

The stadiums are being filled no problem, and that's what counts in the end. What I think was a big blow to the whole outdoor games thing was the absence of the HBO documentary, that show was always a great build up to the winter classic and the whole outdoor part of the season. This year, without the show, i honestly had no idea who was playing who, and I really like to consider myself an avid follower of the game.

They had a show on a channel called Epix following the Blackhawks and Capitals. I didn't ever watch it tough. Big difference between Epix and HBO.

how freaking dumb is the NHL to have no games other than the silly all-star scrimmage during the first full weekend without footbawl since August?

total sports void going on this weekend when they could/should have a couple of 1 PM games on NBC on both saturday and sunday OR this would be the perfect weekend for an outdoor game...

Uh. The big game is this weekend. The NHL can't compete with the almighty Pro Bowl. Smart decision on their part to not try and go against that ratings giant. :sarcasm:

I'm still wondering why the Flyers/Pens outdoor hasn't happened. I mean does the NHL not watch those games?

But i am seeing more and more empty seats at games so that number could go down. Most likely when a team like Calgary or Carolina comes in.
