He's 3 points shy of both Subban and Josi, and is also a -16. Some of that is of course due to playing for Carolina, but still, if they weren't trying to have a rep from every team, there would certainly be more deserving guys getting the nod over Faulk.
I said just as many points and they are probably more impressive considering who he plays with. I agree there are probably more deserving guys, but my point was you can at least make a case for him to be there. Girgensons is a nice young player but he has no business being there. No one on Buffalo does.

They'll never take the fan vote completely out, but they need to make adjustments. It's ridiculous to have 5 guys from the same team and one guy that shouldn't be there.

Agreed. All in all, it doesn't even matter considering the ASG sucks. I miss the Olympics already

Isn't it a rule that every team has to have at least one representative? Makes sense if so. If a team doesn't have a representative that's a lot less interest from the fan base. Snubs guys like Subban, but it's both an ASG and a fan vote. Not exactly the pinnacle of competitiveness or all that important.

Still, having five Blackhawks is silly. They should definitely cap the amount of representatives a team can have.

Glad they chose Nuge to represent the oilers. One of the only kids on that team I like. Glad G & V made it as well. Well deserved.

Avs and Sens both win. They're pulling away from us. And San Jose look like losing to the Rags, and we have their third.

Minnesota is a team we're probably going to have to worry about going forward. They're freefalling badly right now & don't appear to be close to turning it around.

Franson is supposedly on the block according to Friedman. He is the type Homer would have traded the Sharks 3rd this year and our 2nd next year for and tried to sign for too much and too long. Hopefully Hextall actually shows patience.

We all know how ridiculous the ASG voting system is. There should be a weighting system that fan voting accounts for 50-60% of the final decision to reduce the ballot box stuffing factor.

Edmonton's rep should have been McDavid, and Buffalo should be sending a 1st round draft pick. Not a player chosen in the 1st; an actual ping pong ball with their logo on it.

It just shows that having a true #1D does not guarantee anything.

Yeah, they have a #1 defender, a good defense in general, a good defensive system, a good goalie, good offensive forwards, good defensive forwards, and they are more than $6 million under the cap. According to HFBoards, they should be guaranteed infinity Stanley Cups. :sarcasm:

In reality, there is no proven system or strategy for anything. You need to be very good and equally as lucky in order to win the Cup. There are systems to staying competitive, sure. But winning a Cup is really something that at the end of the day comes down to everything going perfectly at the perfect time. No untimely injuries, goalie gets hot, players get hot, calls and bounces go your way, players you don't expect much from step up (and players you do expect much from step up more than you think).

You forgot to mention their awful coach sabotaging the whole thing. If you have to ignore a large factor to make your point, there's a problem.

What is your point, exactly? Is this yet another attempt at defending Homer?

Yeah, I don't get the point. There may be different roads to victory, but that doesn't change the fact in the long run Homer's road was clearly leading off a cliff. And that is precisely what happened.

I think many people saw this coming. where we are now with the franchise. The thought that fixing/masking the problems with this team with high priced contracts and giving away draft picks like they were candy to fix holes was going to catch up with them and when it did it was not going to be pretty. and here we are.
imagine that.

If you gather all the True #1 dmen and had a draft , Suter would be the last pick.

Intriguing. This obviously depends on how we define "true #1 dmen". How's this, in no particular order?

Weber
Doughty
Pietrangelo
Shattenkirk
Giordano
Subban
Chara
Seidenberg
McDonagh
Hedman
Suter
Keith
Seabrook
Karlsson
Ekman-Larsson
Hamhuis
Kronwall

if you are going by this list i take suter over hamhuis seidenberg and shattenkirk but those are players who i dont consider true number 1's

However I would take suter over kronwall who i consider a true number 1 so I guess if there was a draft he would be second to last.

Not Homer, really, just "the process" in general. Everyone is so concerned about how to build or construct a team that will win championships. You HAVE to have a #1 defender. You HAVE to have a good goalie. You HAVE to be good defensively. You HAVE to have cap space to make moves. And so forth and so on. Now, of course all of those things help, but none of them (even all at once) guarantee anything. I was really just echoing the sentiments of the poster to whom I replied. Getting a #1 defender on this team would be great...but it guarantees nothing.

It gets us closer, for sure, but in all likelihood, by the time this team has a #1 defender (be it Morin, Sanheim, Ghost, Hagg, or someone drafted in the future or signed/traded in the future), there will be another hole that needs filling. Then it will be a never ending search for Giroux's replacement/Giroux's scoring linemate/a shutdown defensive forward/starting goalie/whatever else the problem may or may not be at the time.
