Two heavy shot-blocking teams.

Vegas has a very deep defense corps & does a tremendous job taking away the middle.

These teams may be hiring good young hockey coaches, but they all severely lack in cult of personality. My ideal coach gets kicked in the head by a horse and sees apocalyptic visions of the future that only he can prevent.

Is Ekblad not on Florida's top pair?

He’s been 3rd in minutes/game regular season and playoffs.

Didn’t really realize how hard it is to get in the HoF as a goalie when actually broken down like that. I’d imagine Lundqvist gets in & probably even first time without looking who else is up for nomination that year.

Do they have a special new section for sieves? I don't remember seeing it when I went in 1994.

Brunette spent 4 seasons playing under Trotz in Portland of the AHL, & a 5th season playing under Trotz in Nashville’s first NHL season.

Does that count as a nepotism hire, for those who complain about the Flyers hiring people they know?

Does this mean perhaps Brad Shaw will be hired in Anaheim, as he played 3 seasons with Pat Verbeek in Hartford?

Brunette has nearly a decade coaching experience at the NHL level outside of the Predators organization.

So no, not really a nepotism hire. Unless a bunch of meddling alumni advisors advocated for him solely because he played for the preds 20 years ago. In that case, sure. Nepo af.

No, it’s the exact same as the Flyers hiring Keith Jones, who has been employed by the Flyers from 1998-2001 as a player and 2005-2023 as a commentator. And Briere from 2007-2013 as a player and 2015-2023 in Comcast executive roles. I mean 23 years ago, Brunette played a season for the Preds and Trotz coached him in the AHL. The same!

Remove the context that the Flyers are by far the most incestuous team in the league deserving no benefit of the doubt (anyone have that tweet?). Ignore that Brunette might very well be a solid coach and was going to get another shot soon. And ignore that the Trotz-era Predators, exhibiting the “keep it in the family” approach themselves right now post-Poile, might not actually be an organization you want to emulate.

Marek had some talking points today.

Caps hire....they viewed him as the one that got away when he left Hershey for the Leafs. Deep down, they knew eventually they would try and get him back. The timeline set up for this offseason but yet they interviewed others in case he chose to go elsewhere as other teams were interested in him.

Duclair....the guy that Torts said wasn't even sure if he could play hockey properly, is now playing for the Stanley Cup.

Latvia game winning goal scorer....they talked and said it's been crazy since the win. Said Porzingis was following them all thru the tournament and dm'd after the game. Said they went to Latvia's Presidents house and he had a cake for them. And also he was stuck in traffic yesterday and he pulled out his medal, and cars started moving to the side so he could get by everyone. He said he is overwhelmed with the fans response.

It shows what a bronze medal means to the "lesser" countries players, fans and countries. It can only help their future to keep growing and getting better. Good to see.
