I wanted Carolina and Dallas to win, but it would be cool if all four Conference Finals in the NBA and NHL were sweeps. That can't have ever happened before.

Speaking of things that I don't think have ever happened before..

The Florida Panthers currently have 3 of the top 4 picks from the 2014 Draft in their lineup (Ekblad, Reinhart, Bennett). I glanced over a bunch of different drafts and couldn't find any more than 2 of the top 4 in the same lineup. Anyone know if this has happened before?

Goalies seem to be more unpredictable than ever. This was only six months ago.

The Florida Panthers are in a sticky situation two months into their 2022-23 season. They sit two points out of the second wild card spot in the Eastern Conference with 20 points and a record of 9-8-2 behind the Pittsburgh Penguins with 21 points and the New York Rangers with 22 points. While the defense has not been doing the team any favors as of late, there may be a goaltending controversy in South Florida. That being that the young and upcoming goaltender in Spencer Knight may have taken the reigns as the new goalie number one for the Panthers.

The veteran goaltender in 34-year-old Sergei Bobrovsky has started to slump once again for the Cats. In 11 starts this season, he’s 4-5-1 with an abysmal .888 save percentage (SV%) and a 3.62 goals-against average (GAA). On Thursday night against the Dallas Stars, he was pulled after the first period after allowing four goals within that period and on Sunday night against the Columbus Blue Jackets, he allowed four goals.

Carolina has outplayed them in every game. Toronto largely did too. Bob is the force.
There's a certain segment of people on hfcanes who are losing their shit over the lack of scoring like we didn't have two 30+ goal scorers go down with freak leg injuries this season. Every game has been decided by one goal, so it's not like we're getting blown out of the building.

I'm just finding it hard to get angry over. I'm more impressed by what's shaping up to be an all time great performance by Bob.

Carolina isn't shitting the bed in the slightest way. Not even a fart, much less a shart. Bob has finally decided that he's going to flex the full potential of his considerable talent right now.

Every year, somebody gets goalied. This year, it's Carolina (and Toronto, and to a lesser extent Boston). You never can tell who's going to do it, goalies are voodoo and randomly Ken Wregget will be Ken Dryden for a week or two, but it happens. Best you can do is shake your head and appreciate the outstanding performance.

And this is an all-time goalieing

I'd likely be the same kind of player that smashes and breaks sticks after important games that were losses.

Jordan Staal has been garbage. I'm not that impressed with Brent Burns either.

It’s not like the chances aren’t coming.
In my viewing, Canes look better (sans goaltending).

I love random bits like this. The closest I can figure out was Picks 3, 4, and 5 in the '97 draft all playing together on the 99-00 Islanders. That was Olli Jokinen, Luongo, and Eric Brewer when he wasn't in the AHL.

Has there ever been 4 sweeps in the NBA and NHL conference finals in the same year? It’s possible this year

Sportsnet mentioned that the odds on betting 4 series sweeps before the conference finals began was 88000-1. Prior to yesterday's games it had dropped to 62-1.

Seems like a bet @Cody Webster would have made for $1.

Burns has stood out as disappointing, but overall Carolina is perfectly fine. Bob is doing historic outlier things

Here's an interesting one, 6 of the top 9 picks in the 1990 NHL Draft ended up playing for the Flyers at some point in time. 10 of the top 18 as well.
