I’d imagine that conditional 2024 first is probably contingent on Meier re-signing in NJ.

NJ still has Hughes, Nemec, & Casey on the backend so they could afford to part with Mukhamadullin.

First he’s on the PK, then he’s on at 5v5… next thing you know some insane coach is going to have him out as the only defensemen with two forwards at 3v3.

Johnsson is a contract dump. Okhotiuk probably isn’t much at this point. Probably comes down to what you think of Zetterlund, Mukhamadullin, & the draft picks.

Two firsts are nice depending on the condition, but I probably would have held out for Casey. Shakir has good tools, but never been too confident in his ability to put them all together.

The thing is Meier is an RFA, so the Devils can recoup assets, if he’s not interested in long-term. I really don’t think they gave up a regrettable asset either.

Think about what the Senators, who aren’t even in the playoff picture now, gave up for DeBrincat in a similar spot. I’d say this is a Devils win in every way in any scenario.
