#Caps forward Nathan Walker will become the first Australian to play in the NHL tomorrow

Living close to Hershey, I've gotten to see a lot of him over his career. He's not big but he doesn't back down from anyone. He's developed a decent offensive game over the years and become somewhat of a fan favorite around here. Should be an ideal energy guy/bottom sixer. Happy he's getting his shot!

I still have zero idea what a donair actually is to this day despite watching Trailer Park Boys.

Lol...it's hamburger mixed with lots of different spices served on a pita bread with donair sauce, and diced onion and tomatoes.

I actually make my own donairs and have a great recipe. There is a special trick to get the donair meat to NOT have the texture of cooked hamburger though. That is very important. And once a "loaf" of the donair meat is cooked, it is cut in thin, shaved strips before putting it on the pita bread.

Oh yeah...I guess it's sort of like a gyro....but with a sweeter sauce and better tasting meat.

Ha ha...all the Pizza talk from my initial post about Little Caesers Arena and that Fake Pizza....

Just had left over pizza from Marras on Passyunk...good but too much cheese....not good for the IBS. The throne awaits its king in a few hours....

Understandable. Donair is the name used only in Canada, and mostly in the Maritime provinces out east. For a dish consisting of shaved spiced meat carved from a vertical rotating spit, added to a pita along with onion, tomato, other veggies and nice spicy sauce. Or many other things.

Same as schwarma or gyros or just plain pitas sometimes.

Don't remember ever seeing the Trailer Park Boys eat a donair. But they definitely loved 'em.

I should add, donair are so popular in this area that there is even a "Donair Crawl" now. Just like a pub crawl, you visit a bunch of different pizza places that make donairs and try out each shops donair. It has gone for 3 years now.

I have not gone, but know someone who did. Said it was great, but paid for it later that night and in the morning....lol.

Edit: also have donair egg rolls, donair pizza, etc... as well.

That’s what I was figuring. It was similar to a gyro or something. It sounds good though.

That’s like here in Philly we have what we call hoagies. There’s different variations to it but it’s essentially deli meats/cheese on a long roll with mayo/oil & tomato/lettuce. If you ask for it as a hoagie outside of the like Mid-Atlantic states you’ll probably will have people look at you like “wtf are you asking for?”. But when you actually explain it they’ll get it. I believe most other places call it like heroes or whatever.

Hero or Grinder is the other common name for Hoagie.

Judah is even better than Al Sham for ME cuisine in NE Philly
Hmm..will have to check it out. NE is a gem for cuisine and variety. On Cottman before Frankford...the Thai Palace is good and Picanha Brazilian steakhouse is good too...

Donair is delicious. I don't know if what I had out in BC counts as good or not, but it looked like that and it was specifically called Halifax donair everywhere.

Yeah people use the Halifax name/recipes because that is where it 1st started.

A variation known as "donair" was introduced in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, in the early 1970s. Peter Gamoulakos migrated to Canada in 1959. When he failed in his attempt to sell traditional gyros, Gamoulakos adapted the dish to local tastes.

And if anyone likes to cook and wants to try to make it, here is the recipe I use. And make sure to throw the meat that 20 times it suggests....that's the magic.

Oh boy, I'm expecting to get even more hate for this... but **** it... I actually like the pizza chains better than proper pizza places most of the time.

Could just be that I live near ****ty pizza places, but I really do like Pizza Hut, Dominoes, and Papa Johns.

Papa Johns, if you do read this, I'd be open to a sponsorship. I'd be willing to somehow work Papa John endorsements into every post I make on here.

If you're ever in Southern California and want some pizza I'll take you to one of my favorites.

Also, Hexastate, I don't know if you still go to Redlands anymore, but my buddy owns a pizza shop out there called Strong Man Pizza and last I checked it was the highest rated pizza shop in Redlands. You should try it.
