Should have let him go. Signing bottom 6 forwards to 5 year deals is foolish.

Jets fans wish they had Copp signed for 5 x $3.64m instead of a single year taking him to UFA.

Last three seasons:

Copp - 187 GP, 72 ESP (12:52 TOI/GP), 13 PPP (0:57), 5 SHP (2:00), +19, 1,175 faceoffs at 53.7%

Laughton - 184 GP, 76 ESP (12:49), 0 PPP (0:08), 3 SHP (2:00), +15, 1,337 faceoffs at 52.4%

Interesting to note that almost all of Copp's PP production came in this past season. Before that he had one PPP in his whole career.

solid & versatile top-9 player. doesn't really have a top-6er skillset, but he produced strongly, and the top-6 lines improved when he was placed in that role. if you're substance over style, Copp fits that bill.

i don't expect him to shoot 26% on the PP again or be one of the among league-leaders in goal-scoring efficiency on the PP (goals per toi) though which was basically why he reached career-highs in total goals & points last year.

You miss VdV that much?

Among the ELCs we've watched are Leier, Luby, Bunnaman, Twarynski, Vorobyev.

Be careful what you wish for, you might get it.

My VDV itch has been scratched with the Nate Thompson signing for $800k. But as I've been told repeatedly over the years: 4th liners don't matter. So, what does it matter if we have a shitty ELC, right? Of course we have NAK, Cates, Laczynski, Allison, etc. -- not Leier, Twarynski, and so on. Surely, one winger can be found from that group at the cost difference of signing Sanheim long-term.

Yes, we should have signed him to a 4yr, $16M contract rather than a 5 year, $15M contract.
Chuckie is so dumb.

They could have done the thing that was so obviously the correct thing to do, trade him at the tdl for a 1st or 2nd+ and then circle back to him in the off-season once they have some certainty on Hart and Sanheim extensions. Man, wouldn’t it have been really nice to have an extra late 1st or 2nd when working on the Risto deal? Maybe we wouldn’t have had to overpay with the 13th overall. Maybe we wouldn’t have been so desperate to pay someone to take Ghost. Maybe we would have had some more flexibility to work a better Voracek deal. Maybe we would have flexibility to get a Sanheim extension done, rather than heading to arbitration and potentially losing an important piece of the future to free agency in two years.

I’m not even a hater of the Laughton deal. But let’s not pretend the choices were between being dumb, and being really dumb.

This organization has won all of one playoff round since 2012. The fact that anyone can defend any of their moves is mind boggling.

Let's see, since 2012 we're on our 4th HC, 3rd GM and 2nd Owner.
So who exactly is the FO?

I disagree on both fronts. Pronger was better offensively, & absolutely dominated defensively.

Pronger could turn on the offense when he wanted to. Compare their career playoff stats:
Pronger: 173 GP, 26 goals, 95 assists, 121 points, .70 pts/g
Rafalski: 165 GP, 29 goals, 71 assists, 100 points, .61 pts/g

Pronger took 3 different franchises to the Cup final in his first season playing for each. He was incredible.
Pronger was good and I loved him but I also respect Rafalski's game and feel he's severely under appreciated due to everyone trashing the Devils for playing the trap.

By that logic the current Giroux and Couturier contracts are bad.

And the Hawks are clearly holding themselves accountable, too.

"The Blackhawks have asked an Illinois court to dismiss both lawsuits. The team says that it did not have a legal responsibility to report the abuse allegations of the former player because he was not a minor, not disabled, and not over the age of 60 and living in a care facility. The Blackhawks have also said they aren't responsible for the abuse of the teenage player because Aldrich was not provided with a job reference specifically for the coaching position with the Michigan high school team."

What a garbage organization. Little did fans know that things could get worse after Bill Wirtz died. :shakehead

seriously? What a goddamn joke, the NHL will sweep this under the rug because you don’t want to tarnish the good name of a original 6 team.
Goddamn scumbags

He doesn't really have the performance to date to garner that award on 2 years. His 2020-2021 is pretty ugly on the surface level stats that have the most weight to arbitrators.

Sanheim's agent should present his client's case with hand puppets for Ristolainen ("I am near bottom of the league in practically every hockey stat available, but I was traded for a 1st and a 2nd by Chuck Fletcher!"), Hayes ("I had one of my worst career seasons and yet Chuck Fletcher started building the team around me!"), and Hart ("I put up historically low numbers for an NHL goalie and still got a huge raise!") to show the Flyers' player evaluations.

Where the hell did Copp say he wants out of Winnipeg .

He hasn’t said it but why else would he sign this contract. Have you been to Winnipeg, takes a special player to want to play here. You can’t go out in public without being recognized, you are paying Canadian taxes.

We have come a long ways from version 1.0 though where Romaniuk broke his hand in a fist fight at a red light after a game when a fan in the car beside him was telling him how he blew the game or something along those lines and he got out of his car.

Why is copp all of a sudden treated like some bonafide top6 center?
He is a center and that's about it. It's like he is almost in that weird Hayes Bonino category where no one really knows why they get so hyped, but they definitely have the reputation for it.

And the Flyers will say Ristolainen had 4 40-point seasons through his age 24 season, while Sanheim has 1 35-point season through his age 24 season. They'll add that Sanheim's career points per game is 0.33 vs. Ristolainen's 0.45.
