Marner winning the Smythe for a losing team is the funniest possible outcome for narratives, so I’m hoping for that one.

The other thing I want is an offseason puff piece about how instrumental Deslauriers was to the Finals run. They iced him only once, when they were up 3-0 in the first round. Even then, he played exactly 3 Minutes and 9 Seconds. I have faith in the hockey media.

I don't remember who it was and I'm not trying to call anyone out, but I distinctly remember someone here saying that Carolina couldn't continue to rely on the Stank-Hall-Blake line throughout the playoffs and win and it appears that was not correct. Obviously Staal has been huge in this series and Svech and Aho were important last game (or was it game 4?) but that line really has just been that "it" factor for the Canes.

Well that and getting Andersen out and Bussi in.

I’m also going to say something nice about Tortorella. He’s a tremendous Pinch Hitter.

Bring him into a vet team so late in the season that he doesn’t have time to get weird and then hit the eject button the second the season is done. That’s how he can be an asset.

I strongly agree with you that he is a "tremendous asshole." Great post :thumbu:

I actually don't think Andersen was playing poorly. His defense was leaving him out to dry on a lot of the goals but he also wasn't making big saves. They tightened up a lot since Bussi's been in net but Bussi has been better so I won't argue against your point. I think Freddy was scapgoated a little too much but pulling him was definitely the right move.

The Flyers attempt a heavy style of grinding and dump and chase hoping to wear out teams. They got waxed by Carolina. The Caps a few years ago tried to run that style against the Canes, chased hits to wear them out. By the last two games of that series the Caps were on fumes instead. Vegas is looking that way now too.

This isn't the way to beat Carolina, clearly. And this is a horseshit call after they ignored a blatant interference, wow
