When Vegas won the Cup:

Top nine forwards were Eichel, Marchessault, Stone, Stephenson, Barbashev, Karlsson, R Smith, Roy, Howden
Top four D-men: Pietrangelo (33), Theodore, Martinez (35), McNabb (32)
Key was Hill playing out of his gourd in the playoffs.

Marchessault didn't start until 26, picked up in ED.
Stephenson was a 4C in Wash, traded for a 5th rd pick
Reilly Smith was obtained from FLA for a 4th rd pick
Barbashev was a TDL deal for Zach Dean (#30-2021) who has flopped
Roy #96 3C
Howden obtained with 4th rd pick

Pietrangelo was an elite D-man in St Louis, but hasn't finished in top ten in Norris since coming to Vegas.
Martinez was solid top 4 D-man in LA, but marginal when he came to Vegas
Theodore, their best D-man, was #26 pick.

Point is they built a good veteran team, a couple top players in Eichel and Stone, Pietrangelo past his prime, and a bunch of guys who were limited but good fits.

Which is a cool example.

When is Pippin going to start using some of his existing assets for bringing in higher levels of talent.

Patience, Grasshopper.

I think Briere is in no rush, both his tradable assets will be just as valuable in June as they will be at the TDL, so if the Flyers are in the playoff hunt, he'll have to get a good offer to make a move. There are no rentals to move.

If a major move is made, it'll either be the week before the draft or in September.
That is, a team trying to accumulate draft picks or a team trying to fill a hole going into the season.

I still think 2027-28 is their target date.
2025: Bonk, Jett and Barkey probably turn pro, Bonk and Barkey may start in LHV.
2026: 2024 draft picks, Berglund, Gill et al are in LHV for the most part
2027: 2025 draft picks will be in Philly or LHV.

So there is no urgency to make a move in the summer of 2025.
By summer of 2026, Briere will know what he has going forward, and what holes to address.
At that point, Seeler, Hathaway, Risto will all be gone.

2027 ages: Couts (35), Sanheim (31), TK (30), Frost, Tippett, Cates (28), Farabee, York, Zamula (27), Foerster, Brink (26), Drysdale, Andrae (25), Michkov (23), Bonk, Barkey (22), Jett (21), 2025 picks (20)

Doing what say Anaheim has done, sucked so bad they've picked in the top ten for the last 6 years, or Buffalo, etc.
Having one or two bad years and picking up a top pick, then heading back into the fray isn't tanking.

They're already Anaheim and Buffalo. They're already following their path where their incompetence means they cannot build around any talent they get.

That's why they have to fire everyone as step 1 of a rebuild.

Even with Michkov, I’d trade the Flyers full roster for Anaheim or Buffalos in a second.

You mean his corpse?
Only 32, but missed most of last season and the first half of this season due to hip surgery.

Klingberg had double hip resurfacing surgery in the fall of 2023.
A few players have made it back after one hip (notably Patrick Kane), but I don't know if anyone has with both hips.

Probably still better than half the corpses we trot out on a nightly basis

Doubt it. Even before he was injured:

While still a serviceable power-play quarterback who posted five assists in last year’s injury-shortened campaign and has averaged more than 20 minutes per game in all of his 10 NHL seasons, his -60 rating between the 2021-22 and 2023-24 campaigns is sixth-worst among defensemen. In the 2022-23 season, which he split between the Ducks and Wild, he was on the ice for more expected goals against per game at even strength (1.13) than any other qualified defender in the league.
