After Seattle hired simple Dave I couldn't imagine worse coaching decision. Well, until they decided to revive disco dan's nhl career.

None of this means a thing, but Mason deserves a spot imo. Ignoring the fact that the guy who was on his way to potentially making this list has been essentially unpersoned, there's seriously no one better than Cechmanek or Boucher in 25 ****ing years? And surely there's a better choice than Provy for the fourth d spot, too?

I think I could make an argument for Johnsson, Carle, Coburn and Streit over Provy, let alone Sanheim (obvious #4 IMO) or Ghost (who the team would never consider).

Jake over Richards is an obvious choice, too. Richards only had four good seasons and six total seasons with the Flyers which is easy to forget given that he was the captain of the 2010 run. TK hasn't had enough runway yet, but he's close to knocking Richards out of the top 6 for me, as well.

I apologize for being too nice. In addition to all of those, I think I'd prefer Pitkanen and Gudas to Provorov despite the service time differences.
Gudas was solid, but also sheltered.
Provorov was 1st pair his time here, maybe not good enough for 1st pair on a top team, but forced in that role.

Maybe not good. Correct. He wasn't good. That really should end the conversation!

But in this case, we have so much more. He refused to ever try to play the other side and was such a problem that they felt they couldn't risk losing him mentally if they demoted him in any way. He's one of the worst choices you could possibly make for a team like this. His entire case comes down to bad coaches playing him a lot plus two productive half seasons in which he was the 2nd best player on his own pair.

I would go as far as saying Provorov is a perfect litmus test of whether you care enough to go beyond platitudes.

For being such a hockey guy icon, Provorov sure is soft. We should recall how viscerally offended he was of a few stripes of colors

My point was more that Gudas was a really good 3rd pair D-man, but that's a far more sheltered role.

Provorov was given too much responsibility too fast and never grew into the role.
How much was bad coaching (i.e. desperation given the alternatives), how much was Provorov being stubborn?
Though in the 2018 playoffs, Ghost went MIA while Provorov shined. But he never was able to regain that level of play.

But people who think he was traded because of the "rainbow" incident ignore his history, he was the kind of player you don't rebuild around, so you get maximum value while you can.

I'd go TK over Jake and Richards. TK has had a long glide path, but he's truly become a team leader.

He's our Marchand, you hate him if you're a fan of other teams b/c he's obnoxious, but love him when he's yours because he "can walk the walk." That is, his play backs up his mouth.

Voracek was second fiddle to G, but TK the last few years has had to hold the fort with few reinforcements.

Yeah, Sanheim and Ghost over Provorov is an easy and deserving adjustment.

Mason over Boosh easily.
