I like the mantra here, we should have traded everyone
(except the players I like, even if that would kill the tank I've been screaming for).

Ghost at 29 would have been trade bait in a rebuild with one year left on his contract or at the TDL as a pending UFA.

Trading G was the right move, and CF got a good return, mistake was that should have been the start, not the end. Risto should have been flipped, not extended, TDA should never have happened.

Even at 2/$4M, Fowler pretty costly, 2nd rd pick is nice return.
He's well past his prime at 34 and his play reflects that.

I think the Ranger problem is the "Shesterkin" effect.
We saw that in 2015-16 with Mason, suddenly Hextall no longer felt the urgency to rebuild.
Then Mason fell back to earth and it was obvious how mediocre the team was.

Shesterkin did that for three years, and the Ranger FO thought they had arrived.
This season he's been a mere mortal goalie and all the flaws were suddenly exposed.
Now they're an old team, Panarin (33), Zibanejad (31), Trocheck (31), R Smith (33), Kreider (33), - 5 of the 6 forwards on the first two lines.
Lafreniere and Cuylle only young forwards playing well, Kakko 3rd line guy
Miller and Fox are a solid pair, after that the D is young and meh.

They got impatient, stopped their rebuild and had too many misses.
7 1st rd picks from 2017-2000, #1, #2, #7, #9, two top 6/top 4 players.

The draft hits were Miller #22-2018, 1D, #1-2020 LaFreniere 1RW
Kakko #2-2019 is their 3RW, Zac Jones #68 3D
Kravtsov #9-2018 is back in Russia, Lundkvist #28-2018 starting for Dallas
Andersson #7-2017 is back in Europe, Chytil #21-2017 is their 3C

Rags got smoked at home by LA

Lavi looks lost

Yup.
Larry Brooks savaged them in the Post today. He correctly pointed out that the current core has gone through 2 coaches already and that it’s now on them, not Lavy.

Ranger dysfunction is always fun.
Friedman said last night on air that they’re open for business. I don’t know how you make the moves they want to make in the middle of the season. They almost want to do what Lavy did with the Flyers in 2012.

There could be an open door for them with Vancouver and the J.T. Miller situation. Those type of opportunities open up when they do. The circumstances around them are unpredictable.

Just looking at team SV%
10 teams under .890
Yet, FLA, CAR and VAN have point % > .600, If they could only find a goalie . . .

8 teams .900+, 6 have points % > .600
Rangers are .534, Anaheim .436. Dostal is the only thing between the Ducks and the #1 pick.

I don’t think that’s a situation
