I thought he grew to overuse it a bit, but that slapper is gorgeous when it works.

Even with Hak, that little start to the ghost era was a little exciting. Miss that.

He's also 6th in 5x5 minutes among Carolina D-men.
Walker has an even lower xGA/60, and he's not a defensive maven.
It's just easier to play in a sheltered role in Carolina.

The Flyers would rather have 3 Eric Johnsons and 3 Ristos then having a guy who can help you out on the backend. Having defenders who can score goals is overrated.

I can’t answer for if he would have wanted to stay but Ghost is currently signed for 500k /year more than Ristolainen. So remove Ristolainen and add Ghost and we’re in the same cap situation. The front office loves to sign players to 8 year contracts so I’m sure they would have paid him. It’s all hypothetical because the management team clearly didn’t want him or value him at all

There is no same way around the fact that Ghost has always been better than Risto, and so paying to give up Ghost so you can fit Risto and then pay a fortune for him was an unforced huge error the team hasnt recovered from.

There are annual examples of teams successfully making do without far better dmen, and yet somehow this team has been unable to replace Ghost for years.
