There was a shortened camp without a preseason coming out of the lockout, I could see something similar to try to salvage as much of the regular season as possible next year.
I know and people complained about no preseason games. That’s never been the issue I’ve had with it, though. I just can’t see a way the NHL makes this thing work throughout July, unless the cancer remainder of regular season. And, if they do that, they probably can finish on time of close to it.

No they didn't... season ticket holders have complained about being forced to pay for preseason since the beginning of time. People were happy about not paying for preseason.

Not people as in fans, people as in coaches and managers

It's the money that talks. The NHL will want to get things back to as much normalcy financially as quickly as possible. Regular season makes money, not preseason.
That’s fair. But, even if training camp is a week, and no preaseason, that’s an off-season of what, 6 weeks for the cup winners?

If the post season is over by the end of July, that's all of August, and 3 weeks of September...or maybe all of September, and then back to camp first week of October, season opens second week like this past year started.

7-8 week offseason.

Seems unrealistic to me. I mean, players sometimes take that much time off in the offseason before they start training again. It’s not fair to the players whatsoever. But, I guess neither is being told your playoff hopes are gone and there’s nothing you can do about it. It’s an unfair situation.

I don't think the cup champions will be complaining all that much. Just means a heavier cup hangover.

Those players in the world cup year certainly didn't complain. They had a offseason about that same length.

As much as it would suck, you could shorten the playoff series' to a best of 5. Then shorten the training camp and preseason by a little bit (~10 days), then shorten next season by a little bit (~74 game schedule). Take a little chunk out of everything.

it wouldn't be that bad if they go that route.

Yup, that's the way to go in my opinion.

Playing hockey in the summer is kinda fun. Watching anytime past May is wrong...or at least, so I've been told.

So, whomever told you that, never watched a Stanley Cup Finals series.

I was gonna say, I don't think anyone playing hockey in June is ever upset about it.

IIRC, some GMs weren't happy that their players played in the World Cup because of the short off-season and the players came back not fully rested.

The GMs were upset because players they were paying guaranteed contracts to were risking injury playing elsewhere. Not the short offseason.

In this case, both players and owners have every incentive to get back on the ice ASAP because of league revenue losses. Players get only 50% of league revenue... right now they are facing hellish escrow on this season's salary and a severe drop in next season's.

Was sad watching that Game 7 classic tonight. The roster turnover from 2014 to present is crazy.
I've got a t-shirt from the Stadium Series game in 2016 with the rosters of both teams on the back. The only players left from that Wild roster as of the last game this season?

Parise, Suter, Koivu, Dumba, Brodin, Dubnyk and Spurgeon.

Here's to hoping that at least 2 more names come off that list before they play again.

December, huh? Hopefully Kaprizov doesn't grow impatient. You can call off the Winter Classic too.

BTW, cancel the rest of this effing season, already!

How does it make any sense to cancel the season right now?

They are delaying next season now in order to keep hope for this season alive.
