Minnesota Wild General Discussion 2024-25

Boldy has his first 70 point season.

His career PPG sits at about ~70 point pace as well, so in a sense it's a bit surprising it took this long.

I don’t think it can be understated how crucial it is for this team to finish in the wc1 spot.

I think we have a shot of making it a series against Vegas.

We would be absolutely destroyed by Winnipeg and it would be no surprise if all of Kap , Spurg and Buium were injured horribly during the course of that drubbing.

The franchise needs a series win

Legendary comeback by Joel Eriksson-Ek. 4 goals, the last 3 came in a span of 2.18, in the end of the second and beginning of the third.
I can't remember any comeback where the player scored like a man possessed the way our gardener did.
Just give him a golden shovel and a big fat "C"

Could’ve swore he was using a big leaf rake….

Should we trade Boldy for Donato? We could use some goal scoring and a winger who actually shoots the puck when he’s in a position to do so

Well, it wasn't the prettiest way to get there, but if my math is correct, 1 point against Anaheim and we're the 7th seed.

The team no doubt has faults but if you would've told me that would happen in October with all these missed games:
Kaprizov - 40
Zuccarello - 10
Spurgeon - 15
Eriksson Ek - 35
Middleton - 15
Brodin - 30

Plus Hartman, Johansson, Faber and Foligno all missing some time, I probably wouldn't have believed it.

So, do we want to beat out STL/Flames for the 7th spot, or is VGK/WPG a question of pick your poison?

VGK it's a better matchup for MN imo, although I think MN is a big underdog to both teams.

Also VGK because the wife is a fan of them. Playoff bet between us is whichever team loses that night has to put out for the other. Win-win for me either way, lol. :naughty:

I diverge from a lot of people in that I don't much believe in the whole "better matchup" thing. In the NHL, the top teams have a lot of parity between them. I think that's all true unless one of those teams has a star-level goalie. I don't think our odds are significantly higher to beat Vegas but, when in doubt, choose the team with the worse goalie. I don't want to face Hellebuyck.

Vegas, mainly goaltending as noted above.

Also, late games are easier to stomach when 1 team is out west. Minnesota/Winnipeg dropping the puck at 8:30 or 9 pm will bug me.

I think we matchup better with VGK. Their only real advantage over us is down the middle. If Gus stands on his head they could do it, and the second round matchup of EDM/LA is a lot more appetizing than COL/DAL.

Maybe Dallas will turn it on the playoffs, but I wasn't all that impressed with them in the last 2 games we played. No Heiskanen though, who I think is targeting the 2nd round to be back.

Yeah I haven’t like their game recently, but Heiskanen and Seguin can change things quickly

Would much rather the Jets than Vegas.

The Wild lack of size and physicality stick out in a big way against Vegas often. In the playoffs where the rules change, they cannot get to the front of the net or on the forecheck against a defensive corps with that size and ability where interference doesn’t exist.

The Jets defenders who will be playing doesn’t pose that large of a matchup issue. Yes, they may well get done in by Hellebuyck by himself and the Jets are overall deeper/better than Vegas but we have seen this team struggle with size long enough to know how it’s going to go against a team like Vegas.

Team is firmly an underdog in either matchup.

The doom and gloom everyone was showing in the GDT yesterday was ridiculous.

This team has battled through so much shit this season (and even last season too). They’ve been capable of playing competitive hockey with the salary cap of a bottom-dwelling team for years now.

Give me a healthy squad, on top of Buium, and I don’t see any reason they can’t go on a run like they did at the beginning of the season.
