Hynes hasn't had a good track record with young players in his coaching career; Hynes doesn't necessarily hate young players, but he (and Guerin to that extent) have had issues with skilled young players. Rossi is a small, skilled center. Right now, Minnesota doesn't have a ton of natural centers, which is why Rossi is seeing so much time with other skilled players. But the issue isn't his usage, it's the fact that this team is apparently trying to move on from Rossi and I have to wonder if it isn't Hynes kind of leading the charge there and Guerin going along with it.
Why would Hynes be leading the charge in that department?

It is way more likely that Guerin wants bigger centers down the middle and Rossi just isn’t that. I am more concerned that there seems to be zero willingness to try Rossi at wing (obviously not now w injuries). He’s the perfect long term Zucc replacement:

Kaprizov-Yurov-Rossi
Heidt-Eriksson Ek-Boldy
Ohgren-Khusnutdinov-Hartman
Foligno-Gaudreau-Trenin

Find you a significant other that cares about you as much as Foligno cares about Zuccarello's nut

if yurov will be a better C than rossi , move rossi to the wing. maybe wishful thinking but just imagine 3 playmaking goal scorers on the same line. could be pure MAGIC!

If Kap needs some time to heal, give it to him. We can afford a loss to CAL, but with Spurgeon, Brodin, Mid, Faber, and Gus in the lineup we can give most teams a good game, anyway.

Agreed. Plus the Flames are gonna knock us around a bit. It's a rough group. I'd rather Kaprizov not get pummeled and injuries made worse for him.

I don't see that. Rossi players a much more careful, intentive, and distribution-style game which is much more suited for the center. I see Yurov play winger more likely than Rossi.

If that’s the case, I see it being more because Rossi is deficient as a winger than being a much better center. Yurov could very well be better than Rossi at both positions simply due to his skating, puck skills, and size, but if Rossi is much worse at one position then I would agree it would be best for him to play in the spot that most positively impacts the team overall.
