The most impressive thing about Rossis numbers is that he is doing this without PP1 time. Most points come from ES.

He'd probably be a PPG-Player if he would play on the PP1 too.

It's an impressive improvement compared to last seasons 40-point rookie campaign.

The blue line stat line looks pretty good if you ask me. If they can keep that pace throughout the top 4 that will go a long way in getting this team into the playoffs and maybe survive the first round.

Gaudreau has 2 fewer even strength points than Rossi and he doesn’t get to play with Kaprizov.

Are Yurov and Buium going to be impact players next year? Are we an actual threat to win a playoff round this year? Do we need to go all in this year to convince Kap to stay?

So many questions.

Are Yurov and Buium going to be impact players next year?
I would guess somewhere between Rossi's 2023-24 season and Boldy's 2021-22 season.

Are we an actual threat to win a playoff round this year?
50/50

Do we need to go all in this year to convince Kap to stay?
Probably not "all in", but if we're not buyers at the deadline and we don't win a round, it'll be pretty hard to sign him in the summer.

Gaudreau is definitely on a nice run. Both of them are trouncing Eriksson Ek which should probably be getting more attention.
Ek’s never been a big 5v5 scorer. His role is shutting down the opponent’s top line while being a net positive.

Per MoneyPuck, Foligno-Gaudreau-Trenin and Johansson-Ek-Boldy have higher xGF% than Kap-Rossi-Zucc. Foligno-Gaudreau-Trenin, Foligno-Gaudreau-Hartman, Kap-Ek-Boldy, AND Johansson-Ek-Boldy all have higher GF% than Kap-Rossi-Zucc.

Now how is their goals for?

Let me refer you to the top of my post:

To answer your question, it’s 12 goals for tied for 8th most among lines. Their goals against is 6, tied for 12th most among lines.

I can’t say I’ve really ever witnessed Kap rise to the occasion of putting this team on his back against other good teams and when the games really mattered.

Leipold likes him because he puts butts in the seats but from a perspective of actually winning anything dedicating 16-18% of the cap to him when he’s not proven himself to be anything other than a regular season stat padder is probably not wise.

This entire organization is infected with a disease that cause them to wilt from the occasion when the games matter. I don’t know how to change that. It’s a stench and it’s been pervasive for almost our entire history.

He can continue not scoring but shutting down other teams top players from the third line while Yurov and Rossi play top six, that works for me
