Probably the best bang for your buck signing today. 3.5M for a 50-60 point center is a good deal, regardless if he's a shade of his former self. A change of scenery might be all it takes to get him going.

I think this is a best case scenario for both players. Staal gets a chance to play himself into a top6 roll without having two clearly defined number ones in his path and the Wild take on a low enough cap hit that he can be played on the third line for a swallowable cap hit.

Meh. I'm not optimistic but he should be a serviceable third liner are worst. If he allows granlund to excel at lw this is a win

This isn't bad at all for Minnesota. If he proves himself they all come out laughing. If not its only 3 years. Congrats to Minnesota for not drinking the Kool aid.

I think this will look like a steal next season.

Everyone saying this is steal, did you watch him play last year? Guy looks done. Just because he's not very old doesent mean he's not finished.

Have you seen the other contracts GMs have been giving out?? Even mediocre third liners with little upside get 5 or 6 year deals these days. I think this is a good gamble for the Wild.

Well it's not, but it doesn't matter. They're not going anywhere even if it was.

The contract is cheap, but that's no guarantee Minnesota still won't be getting very little value here.

He just said he thinks he can get back to top level numbers.

He won't get back to "top level" numbers any more than Lecavalier did in his 30s.

Can he be a 60 point first liner? Sure. Do you really want to force feed him minutes to make that happen? No.

He's a good option as a possession LW and can flexibly play center in your middle-6. That's not bad for $3.5M.

The most reasonable deal of the day. I like it for Minny. It's not going to hurt them and he now knows the reality that he isn't the player he was, so maybe he'll have something to prove.

Not a bad signing up front, but could look bad in the future. He looked terrible during the playoffs. Maybe this change of scenery will be good for him.

I can legit see stall have a resurgent season on Minny. Dark horse in hockey pools. Parise on the wing- I can see him hot 30 goals 70 pts again
