Can the Wild send their backup to the AHL or does he have to clear waivers

Could send Kahkonen to Hawks as we would need another G to finish out year and as trial for potentially next season. Lankinen has been terrible and neither of the guys we have in AHL have shown to be better

Kahkonen + 2nd for MAF (50%) would be good deal for both sides IMO

Apparently maf will waive his nmc to go to Minnesota, so at this point the only thing holding up any deal is the return...

For both sides meaning for Fleury and Chicago? Cause we all know it's not good for Minnesota.

Chicago isn’t going anywhere this season. It would be in their best interest to trade him. But with the Haul they got for Hagel I think they are thinking their shit doesn’t stink. A 2nd + is a good deal for both Minnesota and Chi Town

I initially thought this didn't make sense because I think a Talbot-Kahkonen goalie duo looks pretty good to me, and their stats are fairly solid on the year. But thinking about it more, this year might be an "all-in" year for Minnesota because of the Parise and Suter buyouts.

The team is legitimately good this year and they're going to be up shit creek with the cap due to those buyouts next year.

Minnesota is indeed up shits creek. The next three years they have $12.7 mil, $14.7 mil and $14.7 mil in dead cap space due to the buyouts.

Brutal.

They could be planning to bring Wallstedt over next season and actually think he is NHL ready.

I am not saying I agree outright, but that is also likely key to this rumor.
there was some talk about bringing over Wallstedt next year, but he would be playing in the AHL, not NHL. He won't be 20 till next season...no rush.
I wonder if CHI is in on McBain?

MAF for McBain + a 2022 2nd. If rask goes the other way for cap reasons, add a 2023 3rd.

otherwise two seconds (it’s equivalent) feels fair.

Hagel was going to bring a solid return .. imo if the deal doesn't work for chicago why force it ? Keeping maf isn't a bad idea if they can't move him , he mentioned he wouldn't mind playing 1 more season in chicago so he could help groom whomever chicago decides on to be the starter in the future or get traded and resign with chicago in the offseason... it will be interesting to see how this plays out

McBain + Talbot is what I’d hope from a Wild perspective.
34 year old Talbot counts $3.6M against the cap and 37 year old MAF counts $7M against the cap.

Unless Chicago is retaining 100%, I don’t see the Wild sending McBain along with Talbot to get an arguably worse goalie.

Chicago needs picks coming back.

McBain is a 4th liner at best. He's not enough for Fleury.
McBain believes he’s a top-6 NHL center right now and he’ll only sign with a team that guarantees him that position.

It’s part of the reason why he won’t sign with the Wild.

MAF’s cap is irrelevant when he expires as a UFA this season. Talbot’s cap is not & we could definitely use the cap relief next season.

Cannot get behind MAF being worse than Talbot either when MAF won the Vezina just last season & has considerably more playoff experience.

I can't see Chicago moving maf for a kid who isn't even under contract and is at best a bottom 6 guy..

Was reading a sportsnet article and read that the current GM of Minny was the GM of a player on the Pens in 2009 when Flower won his first cup. I'm sure some here knew that already, especially Wild and Pens fans, but I didn't realize that until now.

May be a reason Flower would be willing to go to the Wild and why they might be interested in getting him.

Edit: corrected a mistake that was pointed out to me by a duck.

"The current GM" is Bill Guerin. He played for the Pens in 2009. He wasn't the GM.
