Between the ears seems like a good place to start.

Is he lazy, arrogant or just stupid?

Basically the new Rasmus Ristolainen. Not NHL level defensively and not good enough offensively to quarterback your PP.

was floored how far away from the NHL his game looked. He looks like poop - slow & lazy.

Probably not the place to come to have a chat about Jiricek.lol

Early indication isn't good, however is this like comparing DeAngelo to Slavin, or is Jiricek not playing well defensively, either ?

I'm not sure which player you think is supposed to be playing the role of DeAngelo or which is Slavin?

At this point in his career Jiricek is the closest to the NHL as a PP QB specialist like DeAngelo.

I find it pretty funny to read how many don't think Jiricek's skating is very bad. I get it's the new shiny toy in MN, but if you take the fan blinders off, you'll see he has a long way to go. We CBJ fans had the same reaction in year one. "his skating isn't bad and look how he's doing in the AHL. Ignore the defensive deficiencies because his shot is amazing." That is all true, and then you start to realize his skating and ability to contol gaps is terrible. It's not to say it can't be fixed and I hope the coaching in MN can do that but it became clear he wasn't really interested in working on that part of his game when he thought he was alreayd a top 4 NHL player. Let's read this again next year and see what the reaction is. I truly hope he can get it corrected because he's a talented player with poor advice and what appears to be a bit of an attitude adjustment in need...

He is and he's been everything Columbus fans warned others he would be right now. He's not bad in straight lines once he gets going but acceleration/agility/edgework/actual ability to stay on his feet are all very bad

Jiricek blew his knee out in either his draft year or just after. Priority to the injury his skating was solid.

David Jiricek was making $950,000 in the NHL and is now making $82,500 in the AHL.

I'm not at all surprised he's not a happy camper.

He has to decide to work his way up, if he's capable of doing so, because this time it's not going to be given to him.

This might be the lowest point for Jiricek... rock bottom. And, at rock bottom, I'm here to say I don't think Hunt is the right comparable for Jiricek. Time will tell. And that time is probably not the rest of this season. I am hoping they are working with Jiricek on whatever it is that need working on.
I mean, Hunt better not be a comparable to Jiricek, because the Wild threw in a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd on top of him to acquire Jiricek. Just for this trade to break even Jiricek should be much better than Hunt.

ehh, Hunt is a two way Dman. If anything Jiricek is DeAngelo in your example, and Hunt, Slavin.

I just think he's always been propped up. He's been significantly better than his peers in a Country waiting for the next one. I think he's a good kid but has only heard the positives his young career and has a yes man agent. Maybe another team coming to the exact same conclusion provides the kick in the ass to change his offseason work which clearly is not good enough. If he wasn't going to be traded I was suggesting they should really pressure him to work out with Werenski in the offseason and find someone (Jessica Campbell?) to work on his skating with from the ground up. Can't really fix skating mid season because it's almost impossible to not fall back into old habits almost instantly
You think that Jiricek should work with Werenski and Jessica Campbell in the off season, instead of the Ness family(the Wild's skating coaches) and Matt Harder(Wild's strength and training coach)?

Jiricek needs to talk to Marco Rossi about what he did to become an effective NHL player. He was an undersized, weak, slow prospect who lost a year of hockey due to Myocarditis. He dedicated himself to training for two straight off seasons, not going home, and forgoing participation in National team hockey. He now is a regular top 6 C, with speed and strength to add to his skill and smarts. Jiricek has size already, and a good shot, with far less to overcome physically than Rossi.... my worry is that he is an entitled dope. We'll see. it will take time.

Should look to play the long game, not the short game.
If he doesn't figure it out soon in the next 2 seasons, $950K is roughly what he'll make going forward throughout his 20's as a bottom pairing or spare Dman. Or lower, if he can't make an NHL roster and ends up overseas.

He has the tools to make a few to several million per season, but up to him to work to improve on his weaknesses.

If he's going to be spending the rest of the year in the A, use that practice time to get better.

No, I was really wondering and hoped to get some inside info from you.
More often than not early draft picks are entitled and act like the world owes them more favours.
If you are picked in later rounds, you know you have to work hard. First rounders often forget they got drafted early because they developed earlier than others in their age group. Now they are competing against 20 age groups and all the older players have more experience.

Goal for Jiricek tonight.
Yeah, and Spacek promptly assisted on two goals and earned 2nd star of the game.

Well, he may just find his way on the big club with Spurgeon getting badly hurt tonight.

Mebbe, mebbe not. Spacek is also a RHD, has been playing well, and knows the system better. I am guessing that MN wants to take their time with Jiricek, like they did with Rossi.

He has always produced at the AHL level. Nothing new there. Nothing will change until he dedicates himself to fixing his issues.

Guerin and staff clearly hate Czechs. Brought up Carson Lambos over RHD Jiricek/Spacek, giving them 5 LHD on the NHL squad, two RHD now that Spurgeon is out.

I said it coming out of camp while he was on the CBJ - Jiricek's primary areas which badly need improvement this season are strength and skating. Both of those take place off the ice. Dressing for NHL games only takes time away from this. I think he can be a quality top-4 player but he needs to dedicate himself to working on strength and skating, which he clearly didn't do in the offseason. So he needs to do it now.

I have no horse in this race but hockey fight descriptions are always ridiculously hyperbolic.

One punch? He swung as Jiricek was falling over and I'm not really sure he even connected.
Agreed. That was more about Jiricek losing his balance than Savoie having a killer punch.
