Confirmed Trade: [MIN/CBJ] David Jiricek, 2025 5th round pick for Daemon Hunt, 2025 1st round pick, 2027 2nd round pick, 2026 3rd and 4th round picks

This trade is looking better and better for Columbus.

Could be highway robbery.

And yeesh - that fight with a 5’10 player when you’re 6’4. Embarrassing for 2 reasons.

1. He lost.
2. You’re 6’4 and challenging a guy that’s 5’10. Be a man and find a big boy. If you’re mad at that specific player - don’t get levelled by guys you shouldn’t be fighting.

I was... extremely unhappy with the trade (to put it very midly) and I still can't say I'm happy with it per se. I still think it's far, far too early to be sure of the end result. But I think I've made my peace with it and where it's left us going forward.

Kind of funny he is getting called up on the same day some posters have declared it a win for Columbus.

I'd probably give this one a year or two to start declaring winners. No idea what jiricek becomes. No idea what Columbus does with those picks.

When the trade was made, the Wild's pick was 31st. Today it's 23rd. Have a feeling it's going to keep getting better for Columbus
Keep getting better? My guy the Wild aren’t going to spiral out of a playoff spot. The pick is going to be a late first rounder (in what has been called a weak draft) and for a 6th overall pick from a value standpoint that is a L.

a 6th overall pick who has major skating problems and hasn't produced even in the AHL this season.

it's not like it was just jiricek for one first round pick, either. the jackets also got a second… and a third… and a fourth… and a defense prospect who has out-produced jiricek in the AHL this year by a fair bit.

World junior all star, AHL all star and 6OA by age 20 and you think he is an ankle skater? I will totally agree that isn't his strength and can definitely improve.

He looked good for the few games that he played with the Wild. Guerin and Hynes sounded pretty happy with him as well. Wasn't crazy about him being sent back down, but part of the reason for it was the cap issue.

Almost all of it was because of a cap issue. His last game in MN was his best game in MN. I hope he continues where he left off.

From his last stint, to me he looked like a kid who needs to work on his non-forward skating (for gap control), but had a lot of really interesting abilities and an aggressive mentality. We'll see if he pans out, but he's certainly got the upside to be what Guerin was looking for when he traded for him.

The Wild seem happy with Jiricek and too much has been made of the skating. He looked fine when he played and he’s coming up again. I’ll go ahead and trust NHL scouts who think he can skate at an NHL level. Can he get better? Of course.

For the next 2-3 years we’re going to see this one flip 100 times as to a winner and loser.

In reality it’s going to be 5 years before the Jackets can claim a win. Minnesota much sooner if he starts making a name for himself. As of now though, it’s all speculation until we have an NHL player with that pick.

The kid he rag dolled for hitting him late and then tripped?

what about the two separate coaching staffs in columbus who thought he couldn't?
I haven’t been a fan of a lot of Guerin’s moves but I do trust a 4 time NHL allstar and 400+ goal scorer to know who can skate and who can’t. Especially compared to a bunch of dudes who read a couple sentences on I’mright.com and now think they know who can skate and who can’t.
