This deal is giving me Tanner Jeannot vibes.

Columbus walks away with a 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and Hunt who is a decent defender with good vision and passing puck moving skills.

David Jiricek should get some playing time in Minnesota soon once Spurgeon or Bogosian break down.

Like this one, Jiricek should be in a great position to succeed long term with the Wild. The team runs a lot of their offense through the D after forwards win puck battles down low, it’s been a huge need to have someone back there that can get good shots off. Along with the physical tools to clear the crease and win his battles, this fills holes that have historically been challenges for this club. Obviously depends on the player, but if there is a club in this league that can insulate a poor skater, MN would be near the top of the list with their strong defensive forwards.

Hunt is NHL capable right now IMO, but still needs the NHL experience to really hone his play. I don’t see him as much more than depth player long term, but he’s not going to hurt you on the ice, steady and smart play is what he should bring.

Sounds like MIN agree his skating needs work but they're less worried about it than they would be given the great skaters we already have up or in the system. Counting on them to cover if he makes a bad read.
Well, he's not going to supplant Faber or Spurgeon, and probably not even Bogo, who is playing well, and gives MN the physicality it's blue line needs. Hope Jiricek is patient and works hard in Iowa, rather than sulk.

I find it funny that some(not all) CBJ fans are saying that the 22 yo Hunt hasn't proven anything, while they think that the 21 yo Jiricek has all kinds of potential. They do know that Evason would know Hunt and his game quite well, right? He coached him numerous times in practices and games.

I am glad that MN didn't give up Ohgren, as MN needs forward depth in the next year or two.

Waddell's opening moves as the Jackets GM were to literally dispose of, for free, four equivalent defensemen all still in their early 20s that we'd had in the system and similarly "totally NHL ready we swear" (to the point of actually playing games) for the last year.

While true, it’s so foolish to value Jiricek as a 6th OA prospect. He’s not that anymore. If he gets drafted this year he’s maybe a mid to late first.
Players values can go up or down post draft. Point and Kuch were both 2nds. Worth way more than most basically all 6OA picks the past 15 years.

So Why exactly did they trade him anyways? Did he make it known he doesn't plan on staying with Columbus?
I said this earlier but this thread is bonkers. Much like Laine, I think there was mutual interest to move on here. Waddell didn't draft him. He doesn't fit the type of team Waddell is trying to build at all. Not to say Jiricek can't be good.

I've been pretty complimentary of him in this thread, but I will say Jiricek coming out and saying he's an NHL player is alarming considering how bad he's been. I think if he lets Minnesota develop him he'll be fine though.

Russo reporting that one team offered 2 first rounders. So, CBJ obviously viewed Hunt as a significant part of the deal.

Yeah there's a fine line between confident and arrogant. I don't know if it's a huge red flag until he starts complaining about usage after a handful of games but it isn't the ideal vibe.

Why is Minnesota taking young players from teams that either have a window, or are looking to have a window... Minnesota is not allowed to have windows... sakes!!!

Hunt is not Jordan Harris. Not a special player but he’d get minutes on 20+ bluelines right now. Habs fans would say Justin Bieber has Top 4 upside if they drafted him

Shit I honestly would love that attitude if the player backed it up. It comes off as oblivious with the way he's played though. There is no part of him that is NHL ready.

But being traded could be the kick in the ass a player needs. Hopefully it is for him.

Could be a number of things. New MGMT not in the longterm plan, trade him before he loses value trying to force a square into a round hole. Skating problems (really balance & not putting yourself in awkward situations as a big guy) or attitude problems. Waddell needs trade capital to go along with his cap space. Jiricek and/or agent dirty dealings with previous MGMT. But my personal favorite, kid wants to stop making middle class money (80k a year in the AHL) and wants that millionaire paycheck (literally a million dollars lol)...can't say I blame him.

Interesting that someone offered two top 10 1sts (sources said any 1sts included had to be top 10)
