Buium - Faber
xxxx - Jiricek

I see why BG went with the gamble here. That has potential to be a nasty backend for the next decade. Wonder where the Wild rank in terms of best young bluelines after this trade?

Crazy amount for a team that IMO doesn’t really have a need for a RHD like Jiricek.
I think a lot of teams realize the dude can't skate. I'm not hating, I think he'll still be a damn good NHLer, but that's such a huge deal right now.

He has other concerns but those can all be coached.

Edit: I read your post completely wrong the first time lol

The Wild are going to be scary here soon. Stacked at D and we are about to get 14 million dollars back to do some damage in free agency.

Despite the rumors, I don't think teams were as high on Jiricek as many thought... and this return confirms that.
I bet some teams offered a first, but all the +++ got it done. But yeah, something is up to have his value drop. I bet it's his skating. Not so much speed but his balance. Dude keeps falling down.

They have Faber and Spurgeon making big money next year and the year after on the right side, so having someone cheaper with potential playing below them then taking over once Spurgeon’s deal expires might not be a bad move if he pans out.

I think the Skating concerns have creeped up at the NHL level but generally I like the move. I loved the prospect. If he becomes a mainstay top 4 D that adds some offense and physicality this trade will be a home run. No need for him to be the 1D he was drafted to be, but I’m not completely ruling that out.

that 14 is gonna disappear faster than you'd think. extending Kaprizov is going to be $$$ and for the love of god we need to extend Rossi as well or find another C that's as effective and thus as expensive.

Minnesota has a great skating coach in Andy Ness...and one of the better skating bluelines currently. Im sure the Wild are confident they can both turn him into a better skater and cover for him while he learns.

It's been clear from moment Waddell took over the constant of Jiricek in rumors that he wasn't seen highly by new regime and this is new GM moving on from guy he wasn't fond of viewing his value as potentially at risk of declining if he retains him further

Similar to Davidson in Chicago trading Dach who was Bowman guy and clearly Davidson didn't see as a piece to build around

Time will tell but the value isn't worst for situation Jackets found themselves in. For Wild they gave up a decent amount but upside/potential reward makes it worth risk for them to gamble

Sure - but the Cap is also going up significantly.

I don’t know why people are underwhelmed by this return. That’s a lot of value in picks. It’s just that it’s picks not a similar caliber prospect coming back.

Jackets fans were convinced they were getting Marco Rossi lmao, that’s why people are ripping on them so hard.

CBJ getting a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd round pick (4th and 5th cancel out, to me) on top of Hunt is a tidy piece of business. Hunt can play bottom pairing right now, and is only 22 yo. Good skater, decent size and strength, decent puck skills. Middle pairing upside...he is not a klutz with the puck. Just needs NHL experience, IMO.

CBJ got a guy who can free up Waddell to trade a guy like Provorov,(or?0 should they want to free up some cap space and get even more picks. Not saying that Hunt is ready to do more than bottom pairing right now, but he is not some talentless 29 yo.

I think that CBJ did very well out of this trade. If Jiricek turns out to be a headcase after all, or his skating holds him back from being a legit top 4 NHL'er, then they, not Guerin, will be the guys laughing.

I hope Jiricek checks his ego at the Minnesota border and reports to Des Moines with a positive attitude. He is not supplanting Faber, Spurgeon, or Bogosian, at least this year. If he works hard on his game, and beats out Spacek, he will be first call up if a RHD gets injured.

Yeah Askarov brought back very similar value when he was traded. This kind of return for Jiricek seems pretty spot on.

My hope was the Penguins would get Vancouver’s 1st for Pettersson and then do that 1st, Murashov and their highest 3rd for Jiricek. That’s more or less where the actual deal with Minnesota ended up.

Waddell did not allow draft position to impact his assessment of the player. GMs of high picks will give that player chances to succeed. Looks bad on the gm when their high pick busts.

New regimes are not bound by that burden. Will see the player with an objective lens. Waddell made the call to move on from him. Whether it was upside, relationship, or whatever as the driver, he decided to move on.

I recommended the Flyers offer Farabee, Zamula, and the Jackets 2nd back (which is almost a late 1st) and I was laughed at. It would have been a better deal for Columbus and I can't believe Briere wasn't willing to offer it tbh.

hope its really significant. with any luck Buium is gonna be Faber-esque and get an extension as fast as possible so we had better plan on that too.

we only shit on them because we had higher expectations for his value. I think we both may be wrong in the end. But I do hope for the best.

Like making change for a dollar, who knows where these picks end up. I think most CBJ fans feel pretty run over this year. And the changes keep on coming. Looking less like a Jarmo team and more a Waddell team. Good news for CBJ though, the team is looking better than it has in years and Jiricek wasnt part of that, so his departure has little to no consequences on the team.
Columbus has not had it easy.
I agree, I thought the value was higher too.
Really curious how this looks in a few seasons.
Will laugh when he's sent to AHL though.
