why?
with michalek waived we open a spot for brow to move up and smith or griffin. leafs dont have space for stoner on the roster so would need to waive him or hunwick, polak, corrado, marincin. he also has an extra year on his deal.
imo it would be a trade for the sake of making a trade.

Stoner is not a bad defenseman, just overpaid. He would help your blue line.
Maybe not 50% but how about a hockey trade? Retain enough to make the salaries match and make it and 1 for 1?
If we buyout/țrade Bieksa next offseason I wouldn't be opposed to bringing stoner back next season.

The issue is the extra year Stoner has. You're not gonna find many Leaf fans willing to trade Michalek for Stoner, especially if we have to retain enough to be paying the same as just keeping Michalek anyway. We can just keep Michalek and not have the extra year of term

So lets add a conditional 3rd + 5th. If you keep next year stoner you keep the picks, if not you send him plus the picks back.

Not enough of an incentive IMO. We have enough picks/prospects and need to open up cap space as our ELC bonuses will be putting a big dent into it.
