Value of: Milan Michalek at 2M

I wouldn't be against taking an expiring deal back as long as it comes with a pick/prospect coming back and the contract isn't higher than michalek's original cap hit.

Yeah Ducks did scout Leafs and Michalek was playing.

If not Fowler for Michalek at 2M :sarcasm: maybe Stoner+ for MM@2M?

Michalek works only if we send a cap dump in return. Does it work for Toronto?

Stoner is good for 2 things: 1) being a servicable and tough 3d pair defenseman and 2) being overpaid, unfortunately.
But he has 2 points in the season already

And I noticed last game vs Bolts Andersen was screened and let in a goal a bit too many times. Clayton can surely help take care of that.

I`ll accept also Matthews for Stoner straight up :sarcasm:

So... is there anything to be done around Stoner and MM?
It wouldn`t include one of our BEST prospects, that only works if we`d get ALL of Stoners contract off the books and even then probably not.

Yay or nay?

The whole point of the Ducks trying to unload Stoner is to free up space to sign Lindholm.

The Ducks taking on Michalek doesn't make sense.

I see this a lot. People referring to "the youngesters are gonna need to get paid" that's 3 years away and have no leverage. Except maybe Matthews. But it's still 3 years away. And it's quite a good problem to have.

Even if you don't believe me, you still have to believe that they want as little dead weight around as possible. And right now, there's plenty of it. This team needs to add a free agent or two in the near future.

I think Michalek is a guy who would be a decent addition at the deadline to a team either wanting to make a push for the playoffs or in the playoffs. He's a pretty good bottom 6 player who can slot up into the 2nd line if there's an injury and not look out of place. The issue is that with a guy like Michalek, who is excellent at replacing someone when they're injured, is that he's very injury prone himself. I think teams would take him for a 4th or a 5th, but he could end up being very useful depth for a team looking to make an impact.

You're saving 1.25 million if you trade stoner for michalek @50%

Which is 1.25 that would take away from Lindholm.

1.25 might not sound like much but it's a big deal in the Anaheim Lindholm situation.

Michalek to Ottawa or Florida makes the most sense. Both teams have the cap room and had key injuries to a winger (CMac and Huberdeau) so they could use the depth Michalek would offer.

Stoner + a 3rd for Michalek at 2M

The Ducks did scout the Leafs in the past week too.

this doesnt do much for the leafs.

Michalek at $2 million could probably get future considerations/7th rounder without taking on a bad contract for this year and next. a 3rd is terrible consideration for that. i think leafs would retain $2 million if they could dump him. bringing back other garbage is just shuffling deck chairs and offers no value or purpose.

How does Anaheim saving 1.25mil take away from lindholm? Michalek @50% is cheaper than stoner.

a third isn't enough, but the Stoner + Theodore talk is a joke.

Stoner + 2nd that TO gave us in the Andersen deal for Michalek at 2 million and a 6th.

Leafs could sell Michalek at 2M for positive value in the range of a 4th or 5th rd. pick.

Stoner is going to need at the absolute least a 2nd + another asset to remove him. Savard's 1 year insured LTIR contract cost a 2nd to move and they weren't in the middle of the season, pushed against a deadline to fit in Lindholm.

The Leafs aren't making the deal to upgrade a 6th to a 2nd. No favours are being done here.

Would love him back in a sens uniform.
Would offer a 4th+Sieloff for him at 2Mil

Leaf cannot trade Michalek back to Ottawa with retention until a year has passed from the initial trade per the CBA, pages 272- 273

of a Player who was on that Club's Reserve List within the
past calendar year;

This move could make a lot of sense for Ottawa. Michalek at 2. whatever is a solid option in the middle six. Can sub up and down while needed. Even in Macarthur comes back.

I'd love to see Ottawa get him back. Guy is a solid soldier, even waived his no trade to help the team out.

Fair enough, but I guarantee Stoner + 2nd is much closer than the Stoner + Theodore talk.

The Ducks aren't going to add one of their young D to Stoner unless a very valuable asset is coming back. They'll trade Bernier to one of these goalie needing teams before doing something that stupid.
