Here's something that'll be fun - a poll where we all guess what number we quote when we complain about our window closing for the next eight years.

Assumptions:
- He does re-sign here.
- He signs for the maximum 8 years

The poll intervals range from 10 million to 14 million in .25 increments. He currently has a cap hit of 9.25 million.

If you guess correctly you get the unsatisfying feeling of correctly predicting our impending doom spiral to end the 2020s. If he signs for a figure not listed, you can argue amongst yourselves about who's right.

Went with 12.75m here. Avs will work to keep it around MacK's contract, maybe the exact same AAV if they can swing it. Mikko's agent will be looking to set a new percentage of cap for wingers. I don't think he ends up surpassing Panarin (that would take 13.15m), but I think he surpasses Pasta (12.5m). 12.8 is where I think this falls. Half millionish discount of AAV from UFA, 8th year added. Mikko elevates the re-signing cap percentage above Pasta.

Practically, the difference between 12-13 isn't going to matter that much in the roster building. Yeah every little bit helps, but $1m can be saved by not overpaying lower in the lineup players. Regardless of if this falls at 11.5 or 13... it is going to hurt either way.

Tough one for me, everyone knows MacK is the alpha dawg on the team, and we just saw Detroit use the "Larkin cap" in negotiations recently. To me, it's a failure in the front office side if he comes in over Nate.

Regardless, I just hope the guy rediscovers the effort level switch that he's seems to have forgotten to click on lately.

Kinda, but 12M is absolutely fair value for Rantanen. It's slightly less than what Pastrnak got %wise.
It would also be less than what Nylander got percentage wise. Nylander would be ~12.1 and Pasta ~12.5. Bread... you can make the argument that his was over 7 years and having to move teams. The other two I can't see his agent settling below both and a decent amount below Pasta.

Correct. Then again, Rantanen also got much less than Marner last time. You could quibble about who deserved more at the time, but the difference was not 2.75M. Leafs have inflated contracts, just the way it is. I think it is pretty universally agreed that Nylander got a very generous contract, unless they actually turn him to a legit top center.

Nylander wanted as close as he could get to Pasta without leaving Toronto. The deal was signed with him as a wing too. Along with that, Mikko's agent just pushed his other big client to just above the highest cap percentage to set a new limit. Where it is further rumored that deal changed the complexion of Mikko's deal. Not at all unreasonable he's at least looking to slightly surpass Pasta's percentage. Bread's is a much harder sell, though he could get that from somebody.

I went with $12.5M. Could be $12.59M, as a show of respect for his buddy. Or could be $12.61M as a prank on his buddy lol...

Happy to see the quasi entirety of votes are $12.75M or less. There were quite a few doomsayers throwing $13M and $14M around a little while back to scare folks. Reminded me of the Landeskog saga were $9M was thrown around at the beginning...

Where's $12.6M? That's my vote.

The Kane/Toews special. Just give em the same AAV. That could be why it's been close for so long. Just negotiating how to structure it and maybe if it's a full NMC every year.

I'm starting to wonder about who it is that coined the term "soon".... Because from a certain point of view....
