Prospect Info: Mikhail Yegorov Pick 49 2024 NHL DRAFT

super delayed start was annoying, thisll be a little abbreviated
  • had a big 2 on 1 save, looks like PSU pre-scouted him getting beat low blocker last couple games but yegorov was ready. otherwise wasnt challenged much in the 1st, most dangerous chances were either shot wide or didnt reach him. tracked pucks well, stayed square to shooters, was quick to react, presented well, etc. didnt cleanly swallow pucks or direct rebounds, but wasnt a problem either
  • PSU better in the 2nd, yegorov saw more action (more overall shot attempts, more shots through traffic, pk time, etc.). had a massive SH breakaway save, also trying blocker side. in the spirit of being a devil he, too, randomly fell behind the net late period
  • got beat early 3rd. good first save on a tipped shot from the point, led to a scramble outside the crease. made a couple nice stops at the top of the paint, but the rebounds kept going out front and D couldnt clear. another scramble (more near post) mid period that he held strong on down low, some nice pad saves there. if he can eventually get to/cover these pucks a little more quickly, he'll save himself a lot of grief
  • started to get peppered even more as the 3rd went on, particularly late, but he held strong and kept himself on top of play
two other notes from tonight: glove was unsually steady, didnt fumble pucks, flashed clean leather a number of times. also thought he was extra invested in playing the puck. good composure with it on his stick, even with forecheckers charging him. solid passing as well

really good stuff from yegorov again. made the saves he needed to, made a number of saves he didnt need to. backstopped another big, big game. what more can we ask for?

BU D support was actually decent tonight, so he had more help than ive seen in other viewings. probably couldve been a little crisper, too. beyond the rebound control/swallowing thing, i thought he couldve been better with his angles along the post and pushing off more cleanly but i mean...our ushl D+1 goalie is about to start in the national championship game. what is even happening

a very good western michigan team will be waiting for him on saturday. cant wait to watch

As a former goalie (not the highest level but understands the game quite well from that position), everything you said was spot on in your analysis of his game. I was really impressed with his rebound control, he didn't have that many scrums in his crease besides the goal you noted and he was always holding onto long shots that can be tricky for young goalies especially the stakes of the game where nerves can take hold. Stylistically, he reminds me of Oettinger.

championship time
  • gave up an early deflection. well executed by WMU, but i think yegorov lost the initial shot from up high, seemed to be anticipating it going more right. awkward save to make either way, but wouldve had more of a chance had he not lost it
  • BU got a little frazzled after the goal. number of shot attempts didnt fully reach yegorov, but there were some near chances, particularly in tight, and a breakaway scare. tracked play well, lateral movement was quick, able to settle the puck after a shortside pad save which i think helped give the team a breather (they scored not long after)
  • steady on a mid 1st pk. WMU really focused on charging the crease and getting him moving laterally but he stayed with it. had one big save on a nice passing play. good work again getting to and settling pucks
  • got beat again late 1st. screened to a degree (willander/WMU forward), but reverse angle made it seem like he still had a lane on it. really just think he got surprised on it. was coming up from hugging the post as it got shot and hadnt quite settled yet. traffic giving him some trouble early on
  • 2nd started with some solid saves/swallows but WMU eventually broke through. 2 on 1, real nice pad save in the paint to stop the first chance but follow up went in. this ones on the skaters, yegorov did his part
  • late 2nd got a little chaotic, highlighted by a deflection off a skate that hit the post. still quick to react and square up with shooters, but didnt feel like he had the same level of control he did earlier in the period, was more trying to hold on. embodiment of this was when he hesitated for a split second coming out to negate a breakaway. still made the right play chopping the puck away, but not certain of himself
  • super quiet 3rd until...another 2 on 1, beat low blocker. little bit of a story for him in these tournament games. tough save, i know, but that thats one you want him to have. team was pressing all period and felt like they had a chance to tie it at 3
  • great tracking and save on a 3 on 1 a little bit later in the period. spot on positioning. threw a shot at bump (PHI prospect) after a collision right before, so hes at least trying to end strong lol
  • fooled pretty hard on a 5th goal. really nice behind the back pass from behind the net, gotta give credit to WMU, but man did yegorov completely lose the puck (and inadvertently put it in himself, mightve bounced out had he not)
disappointing outcome, and not the typical peformance we're used to, but it shouldnt distract from how unbelievable the second half of his season was. this just...isnt what 18yo goalie prospects do, much less ones with the physical toolkit and mental makeup of yegorov. by no means does BU make it this far without him. dont think ive ever followed a D+1 this shocking from a devils prospect before

as i said in the silayev thread, i plan on revisiting my original breakdown at some point in the coming weeks and talking about where things stand today, what looks right, what looks wrong, etc. should be a fun one

All the goals on both sides looked pretty wonky/bad from both goalies, you could tell they felt nerves in that game.

BU didn't deserve that game, that game looked like a Canes Devils 2023 game where BU couldn't even outlet or make a proper pass 9/10 out of the d-zone.

The 2 on 1 goal and the goal where it bounced off of his glove + back and in are probably the two he wants back probably especially the latter, if he hugs the post harder that doesn't go in but BU was under siege mid to late third that I don't think it would've mattered lol
