Kings News: Mike Stothers hired as head coach of the Manchester Monarchs

Oh wow, that's surprising considering the number of players who were called up and fit in like a glove. Wondering what the reasoning is as to why his contract won't be renewed.

Think Freddy Meyer will be promoted or do they pursue another junior/college coach to take over?

From the Insider's article today on Morris' leaving, Meyer has decided to move on

I have been told that Monarchs assistant coach Freddy Meyer has “decided to go in a different direction,†so Los Angeles’ AHL affiliate will have a brand new coaching staff in 2014-15.

Man if we lose Futa next i'm going to be sick. It still pisses me off that Blake is our assistant GM. I'm all for hiring Kings alumni but keep them in a fitting roll Luc,Emerson,Murray,O'donnel are all perfect in their roles Blake should be Baileys assistant or something.

Blake had nothing to do with this. At least in the way you think. His AGM/GM of Manch titles means jack **** in terms of what his impact is in Manchester.

IE. He is not an actual "GM" of the Monarchs.

I can't wait till Nelson Emerson and Glen Murray are named to the coaching staff of the Ontario Monarchs.

Morris to Vancouver? They seem to have an affinity for guys within the Kings organization.

My thoughts exactly. Seems weird to just not renew a successful coach. There has to be a job waiting for him with some NHL team. This part, "....as there is no doubt he is ready for the next step in his career.", is very telling.

Uugh, can you just imagine if the Canucks grab Morris and Futa.

I guess I'm behind the news with the monarchs. But is there anything substantial to the rumors of monarchs moving to ca..? People have been talking about for years and it sounds like a pipe dream...

Too many egos that need to be catered to in Vancouver. I think Florida makes a lot of sense considering how young that team is.

Talon has done some pretty impressive things so far. If they pan out (not holding my breathe) they should be pretty darn good in the coming years.

Watch Hexy hires him to coach the Phantoms. Maybe Terry Murray wants to be back in the NHL , there are 4 vacancies.

I don't think he makes a lateral move.

Maybe he goes somewhere like Carolina or Nashville to be an assistant.

Best of luck to him.

Surprised Meyer is taking off. I could see him being a HC in the AHL. Maybe he coaches Philly's farm team. I think he had some history with them previously as a player. Could be a good fit there.

Good luck to him. Wish he would have stayed long enough to replace Sutter when Sutter decides to move on.

Well, his contract expired so maybe the negotiations just didn't go well? No idea what he was making, but I'm sure he expected to be one of the highest paid AHL coaches if he was going to stay....

Being a minor league coach is tough, because not only are you expected to develop players that will fit into the pro clubs style, but you are also expected to produce winning teams. Perhaps the Kings just wanted to go in a different direction because of the total lack of playoff success, although in fairness to Morris the Monarchs choked almost every year even before he became coach, sadly they are the SJ Sharks of the AHL.

I don't see Morris getting an NHL head coaching gig, I assume when Lombardi talks about the next step it's being an assistant at the NHL level

Unless, of course, your name is Roy Sommer.

It already said in the link in the OP and AGAIN in the post by ZiggyS that pasted the link...

DL is not renewing Morris because he's probably going to get a better than AHL coaching job.
