I don't understand how some people can read those numbers I posted and not a see a decline. It's pure facts based on stats. Add to that 5 more years of a almost 6 million dollar contract and a Kings team that looks like the Devils Cap wise after they signed Kovalchuk...why would the Kings not consider moving him???

We have depth at center. No point in Richards' playing 4th line center for 6 million for the next 5 years. Kopitar is #1, Carter is #2...Stoll can be #3 or call up Shore when he is ready. The 4th line center position is better suited for Lewis or Andreoff...not a fallen 6 million dollar player...

In that 1 year, he has fallen off quiet a bit.

Also, read the rest of my post...

Losing Schenn didn't bother me so much, I think he is over-rated. It was Simmonds, who emerged as an elite power forward. He broke though with a 28 goal season the year of the trade and was on pace for 30 last season. Still only 25 years old.

There was a rumor the Flyers were debating between Clifford and Simmonds...man, what a fumble by DL is that is true. Can you imagine Simmonds on the Kings now?

Ask me know who I would rather have....Richards' or Simmonds? Obvious answer for anyone...and that doesn't include Schenn or the 2nd.

Johnny, Johnny, Johnny....

I left that 2nd bit out, not because it worked against me, but because it was a distracting bit of nothing that only further proves that your opinion changes with the wind. I was trying to stop the bleeding.

I'm talking about the deal itself...not the impact. Compare stats, contracts and long term.

Even the Richards' lovers agreed that eventually this deal might not look good...

You still make that deal, it's Mike Richards in 2012.... He was quite possibly the best 2nd line center in Hockey outside of Malkin.

He was coming off a 66 point season and was the Philly Captain.

Brayden was a prospect, and Simmonds was a good player. Johnny...Your telling me, you don't make that deal in 2012 ? WTF ? When the Kings desperately needed a 2nd Line Center.

Richards production has declined, we all know that. So has Stoll,Carter,Williams,Doughty,Quick,Brown. There are others.

A few pages back I posted his comments from around the time of the deal. He liked it when it happened, then changed his mind once Simmonds emerged, then changed his mind again when Richards was playing well last year and Schenn stalled out, then changed it again when Richards sucked, and has since said he never liked the deal and had suffered through HF indignities for being right all along.

Its impossible to pump the brakes and create the foundation for a discussion.

We can go back and forth. Deal is done..we won 2 cups. But let's stick to the facts here and now...

Kings have Cap problems. Kings are deep at Center. Richards' said he doesn't want to play the 4th line center spot. Kopitar is going to be a UFA.

What do you do???

You keep Richards and sign Kopitar for what he wants....How is that hard.

The Kings atm have no cap problems. The Kings are under the cap with current roster. Anze Kopitar is not an UFA till 2016-17, The cap will have raised by then(probably twice).

If you are talking, Stoll/Williams....Then Richards cap hit might effect those guys.

Kopitar is not an UFA after this season guys, his deal won't even kick in till 2017.

Johnny, if you quote me here saying that Richards got sick in December, there's no going back. You're going to have to factor that into your detailed analysis of the lifeless husk that is Mike Richards.

The Kings have no Cap problems? We are against the Cap now.

Pearson, Toffoli, Andreoff, Nolan and Clifford will be RFA's.

Martinez, Stoll, Williams, and RR will be UFA's.

Kopitar will be a UFA in two seasons.

Let Stoll leave and move Richards to 3rd line center.
Use cap room from stoll leaving to help sign kopi and RFA's.
Still will be tight but is an option.

That's next season (no one knows what the Cap will be), What cap problem other than Slava counting(not playing) do the Kings have ?

Pearson/Toffoli are RFA who will reciece Bridge deals, Andy is waiver fodder, same with Nolan. RR will be let go most likely. A-Mart/Stoll/Williams will depend on what next seasons cap actually is.

I don't think that's a question that can be answered until we know exactly A) what Kopitar is seeking. Is he looking at doing a team friendly deal in the $8.7 -$9.5 million per year range, or is he looking to go Toews/Kane and get $10.5 million. B) What the cap next year is likely to be.

If the cap goes up significantly and Kopitar does the team a solid, could be a moot point. If not, then someone's out the door.

That all said, it's silly to just single out Richards. Stoll makes north of $3 million and has one point all year. Williams has four points. I'm not saying that we should get rid of Williams or Stoll or anyone, but I think it's rather dumb to start forming a mob for one guy 14 games into the season when nearly every forward that doesn't have a seven on their backs is sucking. I think it's dumber still to pick the one who is doing the best offensively that isn't on that 70's line as the one to lynch.

Regardless, Kopitar's new deal won't even kick in till what 2017 ? You could bank on the cap being higher by then. Richards cap hit effects keeping guys like Stoll/Williams (immediate UFA). Not Kopitar, Lombardi will do, what needs to happen to resign Kopitar. It's ridiculous to even discuss it.

To add to this Richards is fourth on the team in scoring. It goes that 70's line than richards.

I'd be more concerned if Richards said he was happy being a 4th line centre, wouldn't you?

"I’m not happy being in that role, even though you’ll do whatever it takes to help the team win," said Richards. "But you feel you can do more to put yourself, prepare yourself, to be in a better situation. It was definitely a learning experience last year, maybe even a little bit of an eye-opener where you might take things for granted, or take having success for granted. We won, which is a good thing, but you feel like you can contribute to the team more and you don’t want to be put in that position again. And to be honest, I deserved to be put in that position last year."

When a deal is made, there is always an impact in the present and in the future in itself, so I don't know what you're talking about with that.
But from my perspective, 2 Cups in 3 years and 3 straight Western Conference finals looks pretty damn good on the resume of Mike Richards. The deal itself, has worked out pretty good for the Kings, no matter how much you want to dispute it.

Okay, so what are you trying to point out with that quote? That Richards isn't pleased with his performance last year or that he wasn't happy about being on the 4th line? If so, we all know that.

If he requests a trade than DL moves him, otherwise I want to keep onto him.
And yes I think he still has value to be trade, not even close to what it was four years ago, but there is still value there.
