There is literally no one that comes to mind that has worn a Kings jersey that I despise more than Smyth. Greediest player in league history may be to kind of a label for him. There's very few veterans that have been around as long as Smyth that I don't cheer for to win a Stanley Cup. I was quite content to see him leave the game without getting a ring. Him and Trevor Linden are right up there as the most hated players on my list. I know we don't agree on much Herby, but when it comes to Smyth we sure do.

Jeremy Roenick?

I don't care how much ice time Richards is getting, especially when he has to play with Nolan, Clifford, and Lewis on his wing. Richards is more of a playmaker than a scorer now a days, and since he has to play with those guys he's not going to rack up any points playing with grinders. As for Brown, for 3 years he was a little under paid, now he might be over paid. If he doesn't score, he better be hitting and being a pest.

I agree Brown doesn't have to be scoring to be productive however I am not sure where that line is as I think he does need to provide some secondary scoring for the kings to be elite.

I've never been a fan of Roenick's either, but he's still well ahead of Smyth IMO.

Smyth helped get LA in the playoffs and make us respectable his first year with the club. How he left was brutal but it bit him in the ass as he missed out on a cup.
Roenick to me is one of the worst kings of all time.

That's cool. I'm not debating it. If you hate Roenick, that's fine and I understand it. In my own personal opinion I simply dislake Ryan Smyth more than Roenick.

Opinions are like *******s after all.

I hate Roenick and Smyth. **** Ronning, Anson Carter, Trent Hunter, Jeff Odgers, and Mark Parrish too

JR...Bum!

Mike Richards ...WINNER!

One came to LA to work on his tan and acting career, the other came to win championships.

You honestly made me double check to see if Jeff Odgers actually played a game for the Kings, lol.

Crap ,I think it was Doug Bodger. I always get the two confused.

I always wanted to combine them in to the Odger Bodger

No Dave Babych memories? As for Richards, I loved the way he played the game but it's apparent now the mustard is off the hot dog. I don't know what happened, he's in shape, he's injury free yet it looks like he has lost his hand/eye coordination. The puck seems to bounce over or off his stick , he never looks fluid or smooth when he has the puck. You see this in pro sports from time to time, some guys just get old one day sooner than others. I'd be shocked if Richards ever becomes what he once was again, whether it be for the Kings or some other team. The 6 million dollar question is do the Kings even need that Richards or is his current role why he's here? Or is it the NTC?

Its hard to hate Babych. He was the Willie Mitchell of the 80's.

You can't blame him for his partial season here, he was ready to retire and he was still better than Duchene 2.0

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but pretty sure Richards (and Carter, for that matter) doesn't have a NMC. They would have kicked in shortly after they were traded out of Philadelphia (July 1st of that year?) but would have only applied had they stayed in Philadelphia. Which kind of explained Carter's discomfort with going to Columbus at the time. Signs a long term contract in Philadelphia with a home town discount, buys a place on the Jersey shores and gets traded to Columbus less than a year later.

They did almost exactly the same thing to Hartnell this year except Hartnell told them to kiss his ass and waived his NMC to move on (I think Hartnell had signed a 6 year contract about a year ago). We all know what happened in LA the past three years after Richards and Carter showed up (although they were only an auxiliary piece to LAs' success, according to some Philly fans) and I wouldn't be surprised to see Columbus make the play-offs and have a long run with Hartnell there; Philadelphia not so much. Funny how that works.

Babych seemed to lose all of his strengths when he shaved his mustache.

Tim Watters also looked off without his stache. Like he lost his ability to fall on the puck to gain a faceoff.

Bottom Line, Mike Richards is an important part of this LAK team and any pretention to repeat cannot be done without MR in the line-up. His contributions are not always on the scoresheet but what he brings to the team and the younger players is of great value.

I like Richards game but he will never be the scorer he once was.

Certainly won' be playing with Clifford and Nolan on his wings at 5 on 5 and getting little or no power play time, although I'd be half tempted to againmove him to one of the points with Doughty on the number one unit. That seemed to have some earlier success but, for whatever reason, Sutter moved off it and the results speak for themselves.
