As expected the predicted suspects on the main board are now backtracking, or trying to explain how this isn't that great for the Kings.

Dean should have bought Richards out in the summer of 2014, but nice recovery, I guess.

Seems like a lack eye in player relations.

If you can tell us all exactly what happened behind the scenes, and why that didn't stop players from signing with us this summer, we're all ears. Otherwise, it's just speculation. For all we know, it could be the polar opposite--DL gave Richards chance after chance to make things right and finally cut ties after showing a ton of loyalty. Just depends on what people want to believe.

we don't know the pattern in which MR is going to be paid over the 16 years. If it is front loaded, and that follows the cap hits for the early years, then it's more of a problem. The big thing is how much wiggle room do we literally have this year? It's going to help if we have a little wiggle room for if players get injured. Look at even right now, we have 24 guys on the cap with the Dwight King injury. If the entire Richards contract came back, we wouldn't have cap space to bring guys up from Ontario if needed. There just wouldn't have been any cap space. Hopefully now, we have some room for this year.

Players are more objective than you think. Money and other factors (NMC, ability to win Cups, chances for ice time) have a much larger impact on the average FAs desire to sign in L.A. than how Dean dealt with a player who turned out to be an ALLEGED drug abuser/peddler/possessor.

Far more likely than the other scenario.

I don't at all disagree. Just contesting the viewpoint that is main board doom-and-gloom, i.e. the Kings are classless and players won't want to deal with that management group after this, while keeping in mind that more players signed with us this summer alone than the last how many years combined  Everywhere else it's "poor Mike Richards, how could the Kings do this to him" when no one knows what 'this' is. We're all just hoping to find out now!

Fans of other teams are very concerned with Mikey. They just want what is fair for him.

Yeah but the players that signed with us were off the scrap, heap.

How many epic UFA signings have we had in our history--period? My only point is basically along the lines of what Face Wash said, players aren't looking at us going "poor Mike Richards, I'll never deal with LA;" they're looking at what we have to offer.

REAR VIEW MIRROR!! and speaking of mirrors & windows...DL just helped himself keep his team's window open for a little while longer. Best of a bad situation. The day I care about what a non-Kings fan has to say about how this championship caliber team is run...The Day I find something else to do this time of year.

Wonder if more details on the arrest or mike's previous drug issues will leak out now that this is settled. If not, politicians should hire Mike Richards for tips on keeping the details of scandals from getting out.

Total speculation on my part but it seems like an NDA is part of all of this. Look at how cryptic the hockey media had to be--even today.

I fully expect there to be a NDA. We will get the actual dollar amounts because there is no way to hide the cap hit.

And that's why I said to watch Stoll to see if we can infer anything. Since as previously posted, Stoll's situation is not as severe as Richards', ICE would have a harder time imposing any sort of punishment on Stoll.

So if Stoll got an entry ban what does that say about Richards?

If people were being honest with themselves they'd just admit they wanted what was worst for the Kings and Mike Richards was an afterthought, if there were one.

If I was being honest I would admit that I want what is best for the kings and that richards is an after thought

Totally agree. I don't like the connotation of 'afterthought' though but that's just me being nitpicky, I know what you meant :P Wish the dude well.
