I dont know if this has been mentioned as I havent read the entire thread. I assume that bringing Richards back for the playoffs would be a huge shot in the arm for the team. Even if he doesnt play a prominent role, getting a warrior like this back in your locker room has got to be a rallying point (or what ever you want to call it) for the team. Just my 2 cents.

Isn't this basically exactly what I said would happen?

I said people were going "oh whoopdeedoo, he's scoring in the AHL, that's what he's supposed to do; in fact, I want to see him score MORE," but that if he cooled off for even a moment, people would be all over him for not scoring...

so you predicted that people would expect Mike Richards to score and that they would be angered if he didn't meet people's expectations?

What happens if we wait a season and drop him in the expansion draft???

We'd still need to bribe them to take him.

We suck at bribes in expansion drafts. I recall a bribe we did for Nashville to either take Frederic Chabot (and thus pass on the goalies we had on the pro team like the immortal Stehpane Fiset) or to not take Garry Galley. The bribe we gave Nashville was some so-so European defenseman named Kimmo Timonon.

The next year a similar bribe cost us Sean O'Donnell.

They worked out so well....

This writer is guilty of doing what I feel like a lot of people on this board are, just failing to understand what has happened and judging the player based on what he was at his peak five years ago and not what he is now. I wonder how many Kings games this writer actually watched since the collapse of MR's game. I think anyone who watched MR the past couple of years for the Kings did not expect him to go down to the AHL and totally dominate and put up 2 PPG in his sleep, like he would have five years ago. The AHL is a significant step down from the NHL but it's still arguably the second best league in the world. Points in the AHL were never going to be the determining factor on whether Richards saw NHL ice again. The days of Richards as a scoring line player are over, the days as a defensive stopper are over, if MR makes it back to the NHL he is going to have to demonstrate the ability to play a fourth line role and likely as a mentor on a younger still developing team while not being a liability on the ice, that is something he was clearly unable to do on the win-now Kings. If MR wants back in the show he needs to show scouts that he is capable of playing that role and show he is willing to be a mentor to young players.

As for a return to the Kings or even an expanded role as some have suggested, I still just don't see it, I don't think people realize how truly awful he was in those roles he was given. Stoll and Shore are significantly better defensive players and that is the #1 priorty for Sutter on the bottom six. And this talk about Richards being this huge addition or spark for a playoff push is just non-sense, again guys, watch the games from this year and not 2009-2012, it's just not the same player, not even close.

Another Taylor disaster. All this crap to hang on to the absolutely worthless Stephane Fiset, cost the Kings a defender who has played close to elite level hockey for what will be over 1100 games and could still crack the Kings top six almost 17 years after the trade.

As for OD, he was brain dead on the Kings, his game really took off after he went to Boston and got proper coaching and then he became a damn good defender.

What happens if we wait a season and drop him in the expansion draft???

The expansion team passes on him in the draft then comes to the Kings and says what would you send us along with him for us to take that contract.

Everyone knows this contract is a disaster for the Kings, no one is taking him on without significant assets coming back.

This is the second time I will post this for Richards' lovers.

Andreoff had 5 goals and 5 assists in 7 AHL games. That's 10 points in 7 games.

Richards' has 3 goals, 11 assists in 16 games. That's 14 points in 16 games.

So essentially, a rookie, who is typically a health scratch, with no points in 13 NHL games this year was on pace to outscore 30 year old NHL veteran in Richards'.

Again, points don't matter. We heard this same ridiculous BS last year about how "You guys only judge Richards on points" which is ludicrous. And ofcourse those same people were the first ones to use his offensive start in the AHL to justify bringing him back, points suddenly mattered more then.

Richards is not in the AHL because he stopped scoring, if that were the case Jarret Stoll would be down there with him. He is in the AHL because he ceased to be an NHL player in any facet of the game and became a liability as the Kings 4C.

I like skating on the ice
Coach Sutter is very nice
Slap shots are very nice
Breakdown: wrist shot, slap shot, backhand goal.

More about how no matter how much he scored it wouldn't be enough but the moment it tailed off even a tad you'd get hate posts.

I don't think you want me to start being condescending and pedantic about your posts hating on players.

He's a Philly writer so no surprise he's lacking substance.

Philly fans are obviously happy with how the deal worked out, they sold all their Enron stock a week before the collapse.

But they forget that MR was a significant contributor to the Kings SC in 2012. The Kings ended up getting what they wanted out of the deal a SC, they just didn't pull the plug when they had the chance.

My favorite part is about Lecavalier. "He's been a health scratch a bunch of times since December but at least he's an NHL player!"

It's the TML fan logic, 'no we don't want your AHL scrub' even if he'd be playing on many (arguably most) NHL teams.

Oh god, I love this.

And yeah agree, people go "look at the player Richards is now, what a crap trade" without realizing how big he was for us in bringing in the first cup (and at points afterwards, i.e. 2013 playoffs).

The more I look at old highlights and plays from certain times, the more I think the concussion he had in Florida really screwed him up. Yes, he stayed out there long enough to immediately go after the dude, but watch his reaction right after, he just looks...off. Or Wrong. I don't know how else to explain it other than concussion fog, and I only had a minor one. Not making excuses or anything, I was just watching a lot of highlights to see what's been up ever since and that's the most shocking moment followed by the starkest decline.

Brad, seeing how Mike's concussion affected his concurrent performance, strict concussion testing best benefits Mike.

I would hope and think so. But remember how he got murdered by Bolland in 2013 and just went right back at it next game? So crazy to me.

If nothing else I appreciate that the guy put himself on the line for his team. I think all of us hate guys with that kind of heart slowing down for any reason.
