It's obvious that Greening and Condra should go at this point.

Condra could return a late pick.

Greening is a tough sell.. no idea what will happen there.

Gryba on the other hand is a solid bottom pairing guy that I would be in no rush to move. That being said, Boro-cop can replace him, so why not trade Gryba for a late pick or something. Then when everyone is healthy (including Methot) you can rotate Boro-cop and Wiercioch in and out of the line-up as needed.

I don't think Wideman is an NHL player. His offensive skills aren't high enough to make up for his physical deficiencies.

I seem to recall Maclean saying at the beginning of the season that they only have 3 RD, so it will be only the left Dmen rotating in and out of the lineup. Gryba is not getting yanked until we have another RD or Maclean breaks his trend of always having guys on their proper side.

they wouldn't (at least not on their own). All organizations have guys like Gryba and Greening who they are willing to give a shot rather than give up assets for

I doubt anyone would argue that we'll actually get assets in return for Greening, that ship has sailed for sure.

I do like Xspirits idea though of maybe making a 2 for 1 with an undesirable contract coming back but at least shedding an extra contract.

That's the goal... We need to free roster spots, not cap space.

For example, do you think the Hawks would turn down this?

Colin Greening (3 years at 2.65) + Eric Gryba (2 years at 1.2)

for

Bryan Bickell (3 years at 4.0)

Problem is the Sens probably wouldn't do it, not sure maybe

I think the Hawks could use Gryba on their 3rd pair and Greening would be a useful bottom-6 player for them, they are top-heavy but not that deep (they signed Carcillo and TVR). Who knows, Greening could be a 30 pts forward again there, depending on his linemates.

==================================

Other ideas (food for thought) :

Colin Greening (3 years at 2.65) + Eric Gryba (2 years at 1.2)

for

Erik Cole (1 year at 4.5)

or

Ales Hemsky (4 years at 4.0) lol

or

Shawn Horcoff (1 year at 5.5)

==================================

Colin Greening (3 years at 2.65) + Eric Gryba (2 years at 1.2)

for

Vincent Lecavalier (4 years at 4.5)

==================================

Colin Greening (3 years at 2.65) + Eric Gryba (2 years at 1.2)

for

John-Michael Liles (2 years at 3.875)

==================================

Colin Greening (3 years at 2.65) + Eric Gryba (2 years at 1.2)

for

Daniel Briere (1 year at 4.0)

* Avs would probably interested in Gryba.

==================================

Colin Greening (3 years at 2.65) + Eric Gryba (2 years at 1.2) + mid round pick/prospect

for

Richards, Mike (6 years at 5.75)

* however LA won Cups with him and can you separate him from Jeff Carter?

I like the idea and the effort Xspyrit, but none of those deals the other team would accept unfortunately.

More importantly, we don't have another RD to replace Gryba should we move him. If we move a D, it will be a LD.

Sounds like he is next to take a seat, as the revolving door continues...

Plus I think he's finding the message of "make sure you are defensively responsible affects the "burst" we are looking for him to make into the offensive zone.

A little like Yakupov out west. He's a scorer not a back checker; although Hoffman is better at it than Yakupov I think.

It drives me crazy they don't just give him 30 games with decent line-mates to help him settle in. Seriously, he's one of the few players who can turn nothing into something, which he's done more than a few times playing with Legwand and Neil, and who brings plus skating to a (very) slow team. Handled correctly, he could turn into a decent 20-goal winger. Handled incorrectly (in and out of the line-up, ...), he'll be gone by the spring.

It feels like he's judged by a different/harsher standard than (many) others. He's been much better than: Mika, Neil, Smith, Condra, Legwand and Greening, and comparable to Milan, Stone and Lazar.

Safe to say if he doesn't get at least 2 points tonight he's getting waived.
Oh well, it was worth a shot...

I don't get it. He's been ok, and while inconsistant, hasn't ever been a detriment. His icetime is still higher than Greening, Neil, or Condra's, why would you think we'll waive him?

I think the experiment with him on the point of our PP failed but definately adds some flexability. Might see us try it again when Wiercioch is out of the lineup.

I'd love to see him Lazar and Stone together, and Lewand with Neil (or preferably Condra) and Smith.

Has any player in franchise history ever recorded 40 or more points with Chris Neil on their line?

Im ok if Mike Hoffman fails, but i can't help but feel bad for the guy if he was never put in a position to succeed

Hoffman is one of our most skilled players with elite skill and we put him with our crappiest player and scratch him when he goes a game or 2 without a point.

He should be playing with other skilled players.

enough with blaming line mates

at a certain point young guys need to show something and not sit back

Stone probably sat out cause he was getting a little too comfy in his role on the top line and started to drop in play

Hoffman looked good against CBJ but since then has been invisible. This is just a reminder and is normal with young players

He was even given a point position on the PP to start the year

Well then, Michalek has been invisible until the last 2 games. He didn't get scratched.

It's hard to be consistent if you are in and out of the lineup. This guy should get a good run in the lineup to see what he's made of. Playing him every 2 games will not show us what kind of player he is. If he plays 20 or 30 games without any output then yeah scratch him. We will at least know what we got.

He was primarily on Fisher's (47 pts) line in 07/08, if memory serves, the two years before were Scheafer(46, 50) and Fisher(48, 44) with Neil.

It's been a while though, Neil used to be a more effective player that kept opposition honest, and he didn't cost you when on the ice.

Seems as though they like to allow the young players a chance to see from above what they were seeing on the ice.

Not sure it's really a "getting too comfortable" thing rather than giving them periodic breaks to allow developments to settle. Obviously it was a different thing for a guy like cowen.

You don't get better while you're playing, you adapt while you rest.

And again, you can't let greening and condra rot. Until there is a roster move you will see a r

michalek is a vet and has been great recently. We know michalek can play in this league and has earned the benefit of the doubt. He also makes the big money ...again cause he earned it.

welcome to professional sports where young players generally aren't handed top line mins for a full 82 game season unless they are very special

Too bad he has low hockey IQ, we could have had a generational player

I don't think he's that bad iq-wise. I've seen him make some nice passes and make some nice "runs". But I do agree his head isn't on par with his body.

He's no condra...but he's also no greening.
