Doc’s voice is certainly “unique”, but you’re trying to let it get on your nerves if you haven’t gotten used to it after all these decades.

He’s lost his fastball a bit (and his eyes apparently given how frequently he doesn’t know if pucks are in/missed the net and how it happened), but I still like him. Myself being born in 1988, he’s a very prominent voice when I think of hockey past to present.

I have not heard as much of Hughson being an American living in the US, but I he’s got a great voice and a great delivery IMO. I do hear that he is partial to certain teams (something I have never picked up on with Doc), but both guys have a genuine appreciation for the game.

In the end, I guess I’ll go with Doc just for the memories.

Neither. Give me Chris Cuthbert or a prime Bob Cole and Simpson and Emerick can just piss off!

I never really heard Cole in his prime, but I couldn’t stand him as a Bruins fan. He was clearly (and understandably) partial to Canadian teams and he could barely follow the play during his last ten years as a broadcaster.

He would just do bizarre things as well...like refer to David Krejci as the Bruins “tough guy”. Wtf?

The man stayed too long and even as a fan of his style I will admit that. He was great in the 80s-90s though and the clips are out there if you want to listen. I just find that Emerick and Hughson are boring and seeming to lack the connection that a guy like Cole or Gallivan had with the players and the general understanding of what was really going on out there.

I'm still not sure if I was hearing things, but I think Emrick used "squirrel" as a verb recently, as in, "he squirrels the puck over to Smith".

If that's correct, he's disqualified from winning anything.

Great SAVE Luongo!

Is Hughson the yahoo that screamed this as if a Canucks player had just made an awesome save in the 2012 in Kings / Nux playoff series?

Worst call ever!! seriously - it was quite confusing as he was saying great save, the Kings were celebrating the goal and fishing the puck out of the net.

Apparently some people are much more sensitive to high pitched screeching than others. To me Emrick sounds like a chimpanzee, so I find it odd that you would compare Cuthbert to him in that way.
If we're talking about the pitch of their voices, Cuthberts is higher pitched than Emricks. I also can't stand his stereotypical "oot and aboot" Canadian accent. I've also never felt any goosebumps listening to him and that plays a big factor for me.

I'm a Doc guy myself but I'd rather listen to Bob Cole struggle to keep up with the play and mistake players names any day. Gord Miller is a personal favourite as well

I'm at that point where I mute the tv during stoppages and intermissions. Doesn't matter who's calling the game. Would rather just hear what's going on on the ice and maybe someone to explain a call that was made.

I hate all the idiotic terms Emrick comes up with, and he also isn't very good at calling the game either.

I've watched too many nbc games. Emrick is horrendous. 1. Grating screechy voice, 2. "Waffleboard" and 100 other nonsensical adjectives to explain a simple play, 3. Overexplains, and overtalks. Play has already moved on, and he's still 10 seconds back explaining something, or going on his joke about 20,000 referees in the crowd
