Confirmed with Link: Mike Babcock Hired as Oilers Head Coach | Presser

I’ve yet to hear them explain why they’ll listen to Babcock but didn’t listen when it was Tippett or McLellan. And I guess Woody and Knobby were just nobodies who were telling them to stop playing defence.

As is the case with every coach in the McDavid era, it goes well in the beginning and then quickly fades once they tune out the coach.

Knoblauch had a 16 game winning streak and back to back finals but all of a sudden he was the problem. The problem is the players not executing.

Funnily enough Babcock was hinting at that when he answered what has to change and dropped the Yzerman example.

After all the Knob comments and nicknames I can't even imagine how adult this season is going to be here with Babs as coach. For sure the board censoring is going to be confused.

A lot of XXXX posts...

Just wait until he explains his wife told him who to run on the power play.
His adult kids will hold him accountable.
His kids: Dad, you're being a f***ing dick again!
MB: Yeah well kids, Mike Babcock did say Mike Babcock will bring the thunder.

(Can't believe he talks in 3rd person)
Very narcissistic.

Yeah, I don't think it's a coincidence that Yzerman came off of 6 years with 102, 155, 127, 108, 103, 137 and then just 82 points in 1993-94 - Bowman's first year coaching the Red Wings.
You perhaps missed the part where Yzerman played only 58 games that season. Here are the NHL scoring leaders in the last 42-odd games of that season (Wings coached by Bowman):
1. 65 points - Bure
2. 60 points - Yzerman
3. 58 points - Lindros

Yzerman was pacing for 119 points his first year under Bowman. (Bowman also coached Guy Lafleur to three scoring titles.)

Back in 1987-88, Yzerman -- playing at a 62-goal, 128-point pace -- was on the ice for 1.17 goals-against per game. In 1993-94, under Bowman, Yzerman scored at a 119-point pace and was on the ice for 1.40 goals-against per game.

Ok its done. Stop moaning about the past. Lets look forward. Excited what he can bring. Coach is hungry, McDrai are hungry. Love what Stan said. They didn't play as a team last year. Quite a few of us on this board pointed that out. It was McDraiBouch do whatever you want the rest of you don't get scored on. Having Roles is what makes a championship team.

Excited for the Babcock/Smith era to start.
We need the Manager to build an actual team lol

We have had good luck with redemption stories, outside of Bowman. Plus, if there is one thing arrogant assholes enjoy, its proving people wrong. I think he will have this team dialled in like we havent seen.

Personally, I think everyone in the org will be fine to tolerate some "bullying" if it means a cup. And if they arent, those are the passengers Connor etc want gone
Yup i'm on board, but it starts with the roster. We are not good enough and Stan will need to try to fix this...

Davo and Leon playing together?!?!

Stan mentioned it also???? hmm
I don't like it, but mostly because they seem to give up a lot more recently when they are stacked. Maybe having a hardass like babcock will keep them honest?

Knob came into last year spouting the same thing, so this must be coming from somewhere up top.

I mentioned couple years back it that someone wants them to play together. I've heard that before.

Anyways i'm going to bet it happens this year and we actually stick with it. Time to adjust our projected line combos...

I don’t have an issue with us playing Mcdrai together, almost every team in the league plays their best players together on the same line.

And spreading out the minutes makes sense because if mcdrai are split, their lines are eating up 40+ mins.

The concern I have is will that second line be good enough.

You almost have to run Hyman on the second line with Nuge and still find another top 6 forward to play with them unless one of Savoie/Howard step up.

Let Podz play with McDrai. But our depth just looks ugly if we do that.

McDrai want to be coached. Bout time.

Listening to McDavid explain he's played toooooooo much hockey the last 3 years and then getting trotted out 25min is over.

F Knob! Dude was a clown
