I can honestly see the Sharks re-signing Granlund instead of shipping him off. It's rare to find guys who can produce like he is in such a difficult situation, and I imagine his experience and leadership are a big reason why Celebrini is having the start he is. Would picking up another draft pick when the team already has 12,000 of them in the next while justify disrupting that?

I agree that they might resign him but if a team is offering a first or a package that’s around the value of a first (first and good prospect) then I’d take that.
I can see it if the two sides are interested in an extension. The Sharks have good reason to extend him but they also have good reason to rent him. The Sharks don't have 12,000 draft picks at their disposal. They have 15 in the next three years when you start with 21 in any given three year period. As for Granlund's side of it, it doesn't seem like it would be in his best interest to stay there. He's not likely to see the playoffs here and he's not likely to get the most take-home pay staying here either. Now if the atmosphere and relationships developed in just the past season and this one overrides that for him then sure but that seems unlikely to me. The Sharks also just shouldn't pass on an opportunity to get another 1st round pick out of an expiring contract that they simply won't have moving forward.

It's going to really depend on what teams are offering at the deadline and obviously if Granlund is even interested in sticking around. He would be well within his rights to say, "sorry, I want to play on a good team".
If a team that I am not expecting to make the ECF/WCF offers a 1st round pick, I think that would be hard to turn down. We need to pick up some RHDs, and the guys like Hensler/Mrtka/Fiddler who are looking like late-teens/early 20's picks are really only within our reach if we get a 1st for Granlund.
But if Granlund wants to come back and teams aren't offering a 1st round pick, then I would be happy to re-sign him up to three years.

Just thought is there something around Carolina offering Kotkaniemi+ for Granlund? Kotkaniemi has 5.5 more years at $4.8 m cap hit, and SJ might want him at that price to be a middle 6 center with size as they break Celebrini/Smith into the league.

Carolina spreads the talent at even strength more than most teams, but he's no longer playing with Necas and is getting the fewest minutes of their centers.
Would love to keep him. But, I wonder if he wants to go to a competitor sooner than our timeline.
I'd consider it depending on the + but my preference is to get a 1st round pick out of Granlund and failing that, re-sign him for 2-3 years if he wants to stay. If they can't get a 1st and he doesn't want to stay, I'd probably be happy with Kotkaniemi and something else.
What does Dallas have to offer? Would they be willing to give a 1st?
If Granlund wants to stay and they can't get a 1st rounder in a rental trade then I'd consider it. Dude's playing over a point-per-game at 5 mil that can be retained down by a 3rd team. I can't imagine a playoff team being that hesitant to give up a 1st if they're needing someone that can play anywhere in your top nine and produce right now.

I think they'll be able to get a 1st for Granlund, the historical deadline prices for centers seem to indicate as much. I'm also not sure they really want another late 1st over a roster player they can build around. So my guess is they'd find a Kotkaniemi package attractive v. the alternatives (like Granlund refusing to re-sign and losing him for nothing).
