If you are basing your success on having all your best players at 100% this point of the season you are never going anywhere

Just look outside of your team and see top teams every year go through the same
Never said this buddy. It’s objective to say when your best player is SERIOUSLY injured and playing at 60% then your chances of success decrease.

Let’s see how many players on the cup winner have serious injuries.

Jets fan, I can’t recall the last time I saw an opposing player as discombobulated as Zibanejad was tonight.

What the hell happened right at the start of the second period? He glided in for a defensive zone faceoff and then just pulled up. As though he was struggling to catch his breath or (literally) shit his pants. Have never seen anything like it.

Yeah, that was a really odd moment. The ref physically held onto him by the top of his pants as he left the ice along with the trainer, and the trainer talked to him on the bench, but nothing seemed to come of it. My best uninformed guess is maybe he had a dizzy spell? Extremely weird and maybe something to keep an eye on.

Very rarely does a single player cost a team a game that isn't a goalie but my goodness did Zibanejad single handedly lose them this game against WPG
Trouba had one of those games last year.

It happens, but pretty dire when that player is locked up until 2030 with one of the league’s worst contracts. At least Trouba is theoretically moveable.

Despite almost scoring 40 goals the year before, last year Zibanejad decided that he was primarily a passer. Once he decided that, he stopped pushing to get into good places to take a shot. There were plenty of times he would do that and still opt for the pass in 22-23, but his shot choice and location were still very good.

The result of deciding he was a pass first player is that he now spends almost all of his time on the perimeter. Being a shooter means you're always trying to find the best place to take your shots from and that's not the way he's playing anymore. Looking at the player from pure stats, you would never know this. His shot and shot attempt rates didn't change all that much last season compared to the year before. But if you've been watching him, you see the difference in his approach.

I'm not really sure the reason for it. It's hard to tell if his actual skating ability has taken a dip or if it's a mental thing, but what's wrong with Zibenajad is all about the way he engages (or doesn't engage) with the puck in the OZ.

He is shying away from physical contact. I don't know if he is scared of another concussion or possibly just not going to be 100% since his last concussion, but he's playing scared. The shooting decline looks like he's over compensating and more mental than just all of a sudden losing the ability to shoot the puck. Right now he's just a floater.

He seems to be having some hand eye coordination difficulties too

I hope he takes some time off to sort out whatever is happening to him. It's clear something is very wrong with him.
Not be alarmist or anything, but i was at work one day got dizzy and felt off balance and 3 years later I’m on disability with a benign brain tumour and cerebral tonsillar ectopia. Just a steady decline every 6-8 months
