Now that Chytil is back, it may be worth sitting Zib for 2-3 games to give him a chance to get over any lingering injuries he may or may not be having. Hopefully he can come back re-energised

I love the guy but if it came to him or Eichel, I'm taking Eichel all day. He's my favourite player not on the Rangers and people in this thread are saying he's underproducing....if 15 points in 18 games is underproducing, then I want him on this team because I can guarantee you than when he gets to a somewhat functional organisation, he'll be hitting 100 points. I think time has shown that Buffalo is a black hole when it comes to players performances. I think Eichel has reached the end there and the team as a whole is just down. Up until this point Eichel has been PPG or higher

Yeah if you can snap your fingers and pick one, take Eichel.

If it means sending Chytil, Buchnevich, one or two of Miller/Kravstov/Lundqvist and our likely very early first, is it worth it? If it costs Kakko+ is it worth it? I don’t know. Eichel would fit right in with our the guys in our current group that look disengaged and leave you wanting. I’m not excited at the prospect of trading a huge haul for more of that.

I believe that Kakko is a non-starter for Gorton & JD. Just as I believe that Chytil & Buch will be two of the pieces heading the other way, along with a pick and a prospect. You solve one problem as far as a bona fide 1C, but create a myriad of other issues. Not sure that such a deal is worth it, once you leave the vacuum.

Those packages are just speculation though, I don't see it happening. HF trade specualtion is very rarely on point. Remember Karlsson was gonna return 3 firsts and Godzilla as a throw in?

I would do Kakko plus if I'm honest. I think an early first, another pick in 2022 and any one of Kakko/Kravstov/Chytil/Zib and then a throw in would do and is a fair price

I don't seen Gorton trading the farm after all it took to get here.

And Eichel is more frustrated than disengaged. He's still putting up points. The team around him is good on paper, but take away Hall, Olofsson and Reinhart and they aren't that good on offense. Defensively, it's full of players that should be better. There's been something in the waters in Buffalo before Eichel and there's been something there with him and there very well could be long after him.

My money is on him getting traded and looking like the bona fide superstar he is

Imo Kakko is not at all interchangeable with Kravstov, Chytil or even Mika in a trade. Kakko plus a first is absolutely a no go from me.

Frustrated players to me are hitting a lot, talking to teammates a lot, taking charge and trying to direct traffic. Especially if they’re supposed to be leaders. I wouldn’t have even realized Eichel was playing last night if not for all this talk. He was disengaged at best. We have enough of that - if they’re trading huge pieces I’d want someone who can take charge snd be counted on when things are tough

He had by the far best years of his career under this coach...

Honestly, I'm just guessing really but unless he has a serious injury I can't make sense out of this.
He's literally got 3 more points than Staal.
How does the floor drop out on a player that literally went from his best season to the bottom of the bucket, league wide?
Covid? If we're using that as an excuse, I know an elderly couple in their 80's that recovered quicker.
What's the answer?

The answer to that is that "I'll take everyone's recovery from Covid is completely linear" for 100. Followed that "There is no chance of loosing confidence" for 200.

The answer is likely as simple as the truth that covid effects people differently. This has been covered in detail many, many places.

My guess is the first dozen games or so were covid related and now it’s more of an issue of lack of confidence and trying to catch up to speed while the team and season is already in motion.

I won’t be surprised at all if he ends the season on a tear

Eh.. If he were still that ill, he wouldn't be on the ice.
You people have excuses for the weather..

I didn’t say he’s still ill at all. I think he started ill and now he’s lacking confidence but getting it together

And people absolutely have had long term effects from covid that don’t mean they’re still current sick even if that were the case

OK.. Let's say he started ill.
It's been long enough now so in what world are you losing confidence from once you're fit enough to play?
Same line mates, coach, trash of a system?
What's there to lose confidence over?

I think he's been better in recent games than the points indicate and it isn't worth sitting him. For who, Jonny Brodzinski?

I also don't think it's covid. If anything, his head injuries are catching up with him.

So he decides in his mind that just because he had a slow start that he continues the trend throughout the rest of the season?
Stop
Lol have you somehow never heard of this as a hockey fan? “Gripping the stick too tight” is an almost annoyingly common phrase

yes, lack of recent success can hurt confidence

That's scarier than Covid. Maybe Covid exacerbates the post-concussion head trauma. Maybe post-concussion head trauma exacerbated the Covid.

There's gripping a stick tight then there's completely falling off a cliff but you rationalize it anyway you want.
Stil makes no sense to me..

Whatever is bothering him we have a better option now in Chytil until Zib finds his game, give Fil the top line duties and let Zib work it out on the third line.
