Zibby was better tonight but hope he still has more to give.

Yeah he actually threw a big hit, and won an important draw. I've still never seen a big guy go down so easily. His board battles are a joke, tonight he got nudged and then went down and stayed on his knees for like 5 seconds... Also, where is this great shot we've been sold?

Nudged? You mean one of the 50 cross checks Weber threw and has never been called for in this series? I would also stay down for a while if Weber cross checked me in the back.

As long as NYR has Stepan at center, Zibby is needed to win faceoffs. I think he'll be better when he has fully recovered from the serious injury he had and has had time to recondition. Same with Lindberg.

He is getting there. I really wonder how much the broken leg has hampered his lower body strength and balance. I have to think that has had an effect on some of this.

Either way he looked better tonight. He and Buch have some nice chemistry.

his biggest issue is shooting wide with his shot from an angle...if you do it straight on you may get a rebound or a kick into the crease..but instead, from that angle, a wide shot is out of the zone.

keep it on net, or change the angle...hes doing both wrong.

Bad trade. I think this guy is what he is. He is not a smooth skater, has a hard off target shot. Can't deke, can't pass. Purely a shooting center who needs to be fed. Would have rather kept Brassard tbh. And I gave this kid a chance.

He played much harder tonight. Definitely looked a lot better with Buch on his wing. Kreider was lost.

I kind of agree, except I think I might've still made the trade, considering the age of the players and the draft pick we got.

He shoots hard, but its almost always wide. He's not a good passer, not a good dangler, no hockey IQ. I think his skating is actually above average because he's a big guy who has a powerful stride, although he's not like a Kreider in terms of skating, maybe just barely above average. He's good on face-offs. A lot of the time seems to just get lost in games.

I'm not sure if I like him on the same line as Kreider. They are a little too similar.

Fun reminder that Brassard started coming into his own at ages 25&26 with the Rangers. The same comments were said about Brassard when he was Mika's age.

i think people forget how young mika is....the guy isnt a 28 year old vet and personally if he didnt break his leg this year he would have most likely been our top point producer

his biggest problem is when he shoots hes always looking to snipe top corner, this results in a lot of shots that are fired wide. he needs to try to keep his shot down and hit the net. people giving up on him are out of their minds, hes 24 people and if you remember brassard was considered a bust before moving to the rangers give the kid some time

as you can see i agree haha

He's also played in several hundred nhl games. I Hope he improves dramatically, but I don't see it.

by the end of their 24th birthday season here is the breakdown for the 2 players to compare

Brassard: appeared in NHL at 20
GP - 275
Points - 151
.549 points per game

Mika: appeared in NHL at 18
GP - 337
Points - 188
.557 points per game

and you were saying? Brass didnt put up a 60 point season until he was 27, mika technically has another season before he turns 25 so technically his 24th birthday season will be next year

Mika has plenty of room for growth, people dont usually play their best hockey till 26-29 so im inclined to give him plenty of time to grow

i will guarantee that by his 27th birthday he will have put up a 60 point season or better

Brassard had a mediocre regular season for the Sens (pointwise). But as always he shines in the playoffs. Zib is not even close.

This is the part where we look at the Sens game yesterday, bump this thread, and continue to **** on the Brassard trade...right?

That's considered a late bloomer. Where's the indication that Mika is a late bloomer too?

Well for starters he was on pace to shatter his career ppg trend prior to the leg injury, and he's been steadily improving his scoring rates year-to-year. He only finished with 2 less points than Brassard and was a dominant possession and scoring-chance generating player prior to the injury. Breaking your leg mid-season isn't something that most people can just come back from and perform, especially at playoff intensity, without a few months to recover and build strength again.

It was a long-term type of move. Even if he doesn't show improvement next year, it was the right type of decision for Gorton to make considering the makeup of this team heading into the offseason.

And the 2nd obtained in the deal was used to acquire Smith. When Smith is re-signed, the deal essentially becomes Zib and Smith for Brass, a 3rd and a 7th. I'll take that type of deal every day of the week.

This board is hilarious:

One thread is pitchforks coming, tear it all down and start over with kids.

The next thread is just crapping on a 23 year old player for issues that many younger players have.

If he's still the same player in two years then that is a gripe, but he's still a young nhl player, and they do tend to get better as they mature...

I have to agree. When I heard that he had a broken leg, I knew we weren't going to see him at his best again until next season. I'm not excusing any floating, or the inconsistency in effort, but there is a difference between being fit enough to play and being 100%. Anyone who plays sports and has had a serious leg injury knows what I mean. It'll take a full off-season of training for him to really get his leg strength back. That injury has been a real detriment to the team.

He just turned 24, your point is invalid! :sarcasm:

Bit of perspective: Zibanejad is 8 months younger than Hayes; 1 month younger than Miller; 1 month older than Vesey!

Now is the time to lock the kid up for dirt money. $3.85M for 5 years.
