Assuming Zibanejad would waive for Anaheim. He can be reunited with Strome and be an excellent mentor to Carlsson!

And I promise, it's the last Zibanejad for X straight up proposal that I'll make until 2025 :P
Zib would not waive for ANA. Also Ducks do not want. Also bread is who had chem w/Strome not Zib.

Zib might waive for LA, if it is a package deal w/extended shesty, b'c
1. With Byfield going the other way, he has inside track to replace aging Kopitar
2. LA basically the NYC of the west coast ...
3. .. which has music scene complementary to his rap/dj side gig

The fit for Ducks is
KA Miller + Othmann +
for
Zegras +

will post when free, like w'e-ish

Could you at least give your best argument as to why he would do this?

On the surface, it makes no sense. Dig deeper, and it still makes no sense.

The dude is a good player, on a great team, and has full F you, kiss my NMC protection. He doesn't want to go anywhere.

You found the one state where the taxes are (maybe?) higher than NY. At least send him to Tennessee, Texas, Florida, Nevada, etc. Not sure why I'm doing your job for you.

Apparently to reunite with Strome? Because theyre both centers? Were they buddies in NY or something?

Im not even sure ducks bite on those either.
- Miller is another LHD, were basically over stacked on LHD
- Othmann is an interesting piece, but i dont think its sparks me to consider trading zegras.

PV and Cronin are happy with the way zegras has developed, hes put in the work in all aspects of his game and really shown he can take the steps to be a complete player. I dont think hes realistically on a trade block, and i he is traded it would be a move where we are getting better.

Fair, but I think KAM + his upside as young foundation piece justifies risk if Othmann is included.
Also, Fowler not getting younger
sell high on him, add youth

I laughed at the thread on the Rangers POV but now that I read the comments, I'm sorry what? The point per game center on a rather friendly contract with only 5 years left getting traded for what's looking to be a one hit wonder and people are saying the ducks are getting fleeced? This site sometimes...

This trade doesn't make sense. I wonder of they wouldn't look at a guy like Nazem Kadri. His contract is bad because of the term and his age, but he fits the role Zib would be leaving. As far as him being under contract until he's 40, well, the rest of the league commits fraud daily with LTIR, I am sure NY can figure out a disability for Kadri when the time comes.

I get that Zegras is a very talented young player but his game has gone south the past couple years. It's not like he's not getting ice time either. 15 games this year--a goal and 3 points and averaging over 17 minutes a game. It's questionable how he'd fit into our top 6. He might not fit at all and the Rangers want to be all in this year.

Beyond whatever issues Zibanejad has I don't necessarily look at Zegras as a player I'd target in the first place. I'm not sure what Mika does for the Ducks either. $8.5 million for the 4 years beyond this one. That's a lot for someone you might not be sure about either. Some of us came into this season wondering if he already was starting to decline. He hasn't done anything so far to alleviate those concerns.

The tax issue isn't really much of one for Zibanejad. If he were worried about taxes, he'd set up a primary residence in one of the no-tax states and be golden. Almost all of his salary is in signing bonuses that get taxed based on primary residence. That's how Panarin does it and for all we know, Zibanejad has already done the same. He only makes $1m during each season. Of the $39.5m remaining on his contract after this season, $34.5m of it is signing bonus.

As for "he doesn't want to go anywhere"... generally speaking, that changes pretty fast when the team says "we don't want you anymore." You do have situations where a player outright refuses to move, but most of the time the NMC ends up serving to control destination rather than completely blocking movement.

None of that is to say that Anaheim would be a place Zibanejad is interested in going, but if he's not it would be for personal preference reasons and not the two obstacles you laid out.

Slightly higher state tax. But cheaper cost of living which ends up being a lot greater than the tax difference.

Probably one of the worst proposals on here lately. Let me send your team a much older player for your young talent while we scoff at the same notion for our young talent in other threads.

Anaheim would never do that.
